We’d like to thank HK Powersports for their assistance with our new side-by-side. This vehicle will help our officers safely access Auburn’s extensive trail system and other difficult-to-reach locations, allowing us to better serve our community.

This equipment was attained entirely through federal funding, with no local tax dollars used.

Thank you, HK Powersports, and our community for your continued support to keeping Auburn a safe place to live and visit.

The air conditioner has found a new home.

07/02/2026

Thanks to the generosity of a community donor, our agency has received a working free standing air conditioner to give to someone in need during this heat wave.

If you or someone you know could benefit from it, please send call our office 603-483-2134. It will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Please share this post to help us reach someone who could use a little extra relief from the heat!

🚲⚡ Pedals Matter! (Yes, Really.)

As electric bicycles and similar devices become more popular, we would like to share some information regarding New Hampshire laws about their use.

What is an E-Bike?
Under New Hampshire law (RSA 265:144-a), an electric bicycle:
✅ Has operable pedals
✅ Has an electric motor of less than 750 watts
✅ Is treated the same as a bicycle under state law
✅ Does not require a license, registration, or insurance
✅ Must follow all bicycle traffic laws

New Hampshire E-Bike Classifications
Class 1
• Pedal-assist only
• No throttle
• Maximum speed of 20 mph
Class 2
• Throttle permitted
• Maximum speed of 20 mph
Class 3
• Pedal-assist only
• Maximum speed of 28 mph
• Operators must be age 16 or older
• Helmets are required for riders under age 18

What About Electric Dirt Bikes and High-Speed Devices?
Devices that:
❌ Do not have operable pedals, or
❌ Exceed the limits established for electric bicycles,
are not considered e-bikes under New Hampshire law.
Instead, they are classified as motor vehicles (RSA 259:60), meaning they must:
✔ Be properly registered
✔ Be operated by a licensed driver
✔ Comply with all motor vehicle laws
Unregistered motor vehicles operated on public roadways are subject to enforcement action and may be ticketed or towed.

We want all of our community residents and visitors to be safe in Auburn, so please remember:

🚲 Legal e-bikes are treated like bicycles.
🏍 Pedal-less or high-speed electric devices are considered motor vehicles.
📋 Motor vehicles require registration and a licensed operator.

As always, feel free to contact the Auburn Police Department at any time with questions or concerns. (603) 483-2134.
