Firefighter survival training is one of the most important skills a firefighter can develop. When conditions rapidly change on the fireground, firefighters must rely on training, confidence, and muscle memory to survive and overcome dangerous situations.

This program focuses on critical survival skills including through-the-wall emergencies, full and partial escapes, 1st and 2nd floor bailouts, ladder operations, and system-based survival techniques. These hands-on evolutions are designed to challenge firefighters both mentally and physically while reinforcing the importance of remaining calm, disciplined, and task-focused under stress.

Training like this builds confidence, improves decision making, and prepares firefighters to react effectively when seconds matter most. We train hard so that if the day ever comes, our firefighters have the skills and mindset needed to make it home.

Last night, instructors McNabb, Burns, and Walker had the opportunity to work with the Sennett Fire Department delivering our Engine Company Operations program.

This course is designed as a modular training experience that can be adapted to meet the needs of firefighters at all levels, from newer members to seasoned personnel. The training focused on critical engine company functions, including size-up, building construction and fireground recognition, deploying handlines to the point of entry, and effectively stretching and advancing lines to multiple floors.

The program also included a command component, emphasizing the importance of the 360° size-up and the actions that follow, equipping company and command officers with the tools needed to effectively support engine crews operating inside the structure.
