New cell phone number for the road Commissioner. (217) 697-7772
Hello everyone! For those of you who don’t already know, I (Calvin Harden) started last Monday the 17th. It has been a tough transition to say the least. I appreciate the patience of those who have already reached out! If you have any questions or concerns please call me at 2173064387 thank you.
Country roads and roads in open areas are still drifting.
We just got done with the second complete round. Some of the worst drifting roads were hit three to four times today. They were pushed back with a wing and still drifted completely across the road.
We’ll be back out in the morning.
I suggest not traveling country roads overnight with the temps dropping to -21° RealFeel.
Please Stay home where you’re safe and warm with your loved ones!
Country Roads are drifting.
We went over all our roads again this morning early and pushed them back as much as we could. By the time we were done I checked on the first ones we hit, which they had already started drifting.
We’ll be back out this afternoon.
Salted intersections, bridges, hills, curves where snow was on the roads. Snow at 8pm has blown off a majority of our road surfaces in the open areas.
ATHD intersections to State Routes were salted early am.
Some roads are slicker than others.
Please drive with caution.
Auburn Twp Hwy Dist roads have been pretreated with salt/FA4 mix late this afternoon, since there is up to .25” ice and little snow in the forecast for overnight.
Just a reminder with it being New Year’s Eve, not all Hwy Dist’s treat roads with salt. If you have to get out in bad weather, please drive with caution.
Have a Safe, Healthy, Happy New Year!
ATHD has been installing and replacing culverts, fixing drainage tiles and doing ditch work recently. We have over thirty culverts being replaced and several ditches being reconstructed as weather permits.
There will be at least two road closure projects that will be posted in advance to prep rerouting your daily commute.
Traffic will be forewarned with construction signs. Please follow their warning, slow down and make certain the equipment operators and labors see you before you pass.
Have a safe traveled and Merry Christmas!

I have PSE, (Public Service Employees) working. ATHD & OSHA Safety programs were given last week, a safety quiz was given and acknowledged agreements signed.
Although these employees have been instructed to wear all visual safety apparel, they are new to working near traffic.
They will be walking ditches picking garbage up before the next two days heavier forecasted rain, to prevent drains and culverts from being clogged.
Please slow down, use caution and make sure they have eye contact with you as you pass them.

2020 maintenance materials are being delivered.
There is 1,000 ton of Cold Boiler Slag “CM13” (the good sealcoat chip), which is usually hard to get delivered so early with the high demand for it.
The guys are out patching roads ahead of the rain forecasted. High in the 50°s for Sunday. , then rain.
We’ll be doing Road Work that will have road closures in the near future.
I’ll post in advance locations and dates to keep you informed of our timeline construction.
Spring is around the corner, Daylight Saving Time changes March 8th, the wife’s tulips are sprouting!!!
Wishing everyone safe travels and a GREAT WEEKEND!
I’d like to pay tribute to Brian Keith Brummett, employed with the Auburn Township Hwy District for 17 years.
It’s been one year today since Brian passed.
We had many good times and memories working with Brian.
When it came to doing road projects, it was like the right hand working with the left hand.
Remembering a great employee and friend.
***DRIVE WITH COMMON SINCE***
I had a call about a vehicle passing one of our plows that about put our tandem in the ditch.
There is a sign on our tandems that says, “STAY BACK 50 FOOT”.
The roads are slick and passing a plow on a country road is not a smart thing to do. These heavy tandems pushing snow slide easily.
Our jurisdictional lines stop midway on most of the country roads. We go past these areas for a short distance to feather out the snow so we can turn around and not leave piles of snow. If you’re behind the tandems, we can’t see you when we have to back into a turnaround point.
*CARELESS DRIVING CAUSES ACCIDENTS*
Supertendant, Darren Root and I have spoken several times earlier this morning.
We both were out checking road conditions, up until 5 am the roads weren’t that bad.
The township’s heavy tandem plows have casters with the blades set to hover just off the roads surface to prevent the chip rock from blowing out of the expensive oil.
Some areas only had 1-2 inches of wet snow.
After the last conversation and the timing of the snow, Darren decided to call school off.
We’re out plowing snow and salting.
It is a wet snow, please drive with caution!
What has been plowed earlier this morning is drifting across roads in areas. Once the first round is completed, we’ll start going over everything again. Watch for these drifts.
The wind gusts are strong at times. With slick roads and drifting, gusts will make steering difficult on these slick drifted areas.
Plows have been out. It’s not near as bad as forecasted, but roads are snow covered and slick. You definitely need to plan extra time to drive slower than normal.
Hoping everyone is safe traveling!
Today’s forecast is saying 0.6” (1/2 inch) snow before evening, then 3.6” evening throughout overnight with temps dropping in the teens and RF 4°, wind gust at 20mph causing drifting all night into Thursday.
Thursday-Friday even colder temp close to 0°.
Drifting could go through Saturday.
Saturday’s temp saying 41°
Extra salt is being delivered today.
On a positive note, early this morning, while it was still dark I know I heard a robin chirping!
A plow has been out since 2am pushing back drifts this morning. It’s going slow with the icy roads and down to one tandem right now.
All east/west roads have drifting with frozen ice/snow in northern westbound lanes.
Roads are drifting. Watch for hitting a drift at a higher rate of speed and oversteering on icy roads. This will cause you to lose control of your vehicle.
