Chewacla State Park-Alabama Official page of Chewacla State Park, located in Auburn, Alabama. We also have a Nature Center, providing environmental education to all of our guests.

The park features first-class mountain bike trails complete with dirt and wooden design features for intermediate and advanced riders. CAMP (Central Alabama Mountain Peddlers) manages the bike trails and is the home base for their organization. You can visit the Nature Center during operating hours to see our wide range of animal ambassadors. We also host weekly events that can be found here on our page as well as on our website. The current Nature Center and park operating hours are :

Celebrate the fall season with an Apple C***r Social Hike at Chewacla on October 24, 2026! We'll explore a ~1 mile, beginner-friendly trail together while enjoying the changing scenery, fall colors, and sipping a cup of warm apple c***r. Apple juice will also be available upon request.

This program is perfect for all ages looking to explore the park and appreciate autumn!

Batty About Bats will be this Saturday, October 24, at 6 PM! Join us at Chewacla State Park to hear all about bats from special presenter Vicky Beckham Smith of A-Z ANIMALS! This program covers myths about bats, their adaptations, their feeding strategies along with lots more!

Live bats will be used during the presentation. Vicky holds USDA, USFWS and state permits that allow her to house and use the bats for educational purposes. This program is perfect for all ages!

Chewacla State Park’s Fall Market is happening tomorrow, October 17, and we’d love to see you there! Spend the day enjoying local vendors, handmade goods, delicious food trucks, sweet treats, and fun activities for the whole family!

Kick off Chewacla State Park's 2nd annual “Craftoween” with an Autumn Tote Bag and Handstitching Workshop on October 17, 2026! Sit with us in the cooler fall weather as we make an autumn-themed tote bag and teach the very basics of hand stitching. All supplies and materials will be covered with the program fee. Join us at Chewacla State Park on October 17, 2026, at 4:30 PM for a wilderness survival skills program where we’ll learn camouflage, water filtration, first aid, shelter building, and how to survive with what’s in your backpack. This will be a hands-on, interactive outdoor program, so bring your bug spray and closed toed shoes and get ready for an exciting adventure!

Fall has arrived and we are excited to celebrate with you at our first-ever Fall Market at Chewacla State Park on October 17, 2026, from 8 AM - 2 PM! Come spend the day enjoying local vendors, handmade goods, delicious food trucks offering tasty eats, sweet treats, and fun activities throughout the day.

Make a day of it at the park with Nature Journaling Club at 9:30 AM and an Autumn Tote Bag and Hand-Stitching Workshop at 1 PM.

With plenty to see, do, eat, and explore, it's the perfect way to enjoy a beautiful fall day at Chewacla. Bring your family and friends, get outside, shop local, and enjoy everything the season has to offer!

Did you know that Chewacla State Park has the oldest rocks in Alabama? Join us on October 24 at 10 AM to learn more facts like this from Dr. Mark Steltenpohl, co-author of Roadside Geology of Alabama, and Dr. Bill Deutsch, author of Ancient Life in Alabama!

During this program, we’ll learn how to use the GeoAlabama Bandana as a visual guide to explore Alabama’s physiographic provinces. Participants will also have the opportunity to examine rock samples from Chewacla State Park and discover more about the fall line, an important geological boundary in Alabama. After, we will take a hike together as we get a geological overview of the park to help connect what we’ve learned to the landscape of Chewacla.

This program will begin at the Upper Pavilion near the Event Center at 10 AM and should conclude around noon. Please wear closed-toed shoes and bring water! Also note, this hike will have periods of steep incline.

No Auburn football this weekend? No problem! Chewacla State Park has you covered with weekend activities!

Join us Friday, October 9 at 6 PM as we welcome special guest presenter Vicky from A-Z Animals! Vicky will be bringing bat education animals as we learn about the wonderful world of bats!

Then, on Saturday, October 10, we will host our first annual Chewacla Fall Market from 8 AM - 4 PM at our Event Center! Browse a variety of local vendors and come hungry for the food trucks.

At 9 AM, join the Yoga Room AU in the Event Center for a free yoga session! Participants are encouraged to bring their own yoga mats.

Then, at 10 AM, we'll take a beginner-friendly hike with our Fall Hiking program!

UPDATE: This program has been cancelled due to weather.

Join us for our next Chewacla Nature School lesson on October 9 as we learn about owl pellets! We'll cover the basics of birding, owl digestion, and bird biology, and do a guided owl pellet dissection while discussing their diet. This lesson is ideal for ages 8+. Pre-registration is required; spots are limited, so reserve yours today! The program fee includes an owl pellet, supplies, and child park admission.
