MILLION DOLLAR JOURNEY DINNER WAS AN UNFORGETTABLE EVENT

It is our pleasure to share with you the highlights of #Rotary District 7910's Million Dollar Journey Dinner on May 25 at historic #MechanicsHall in #Worcester. This was a joyous celebration of the Centennial Birthday of #TheRotaryFoundation, and of our district having met - and surpassed - the Million Dollar Journey goal of raising $1 million in donations and pledges to the Foundation.

On May 25, #Rotary District 7910 held its Million Dollar Journey Dinner at #MechanicsHall in #Worcester. The gala event took place to celebrate the centennial birthday of #TheRotaryFoundation.

Attendees also celebrated District 7910's having reached the milestone of raising $1 million in donations and pledges to the Foundation as of March 17 - and in only six months. The District's total amount raised as of the May 25 event was $1.3 million.

#DeanRohrs, a director of #RotaryInternational, presented the keynote address. She has served on District and Zone committees. They include: Regional Rotary Coordinator and Regional Rotary Foundation Coordinator; Pacific Northwest PETS Chair; District Governor in 2007-2008; and Rotary International Director in 2016-2018.

Dean’s best experience is leading teams of #Rotarians, #Rotaractors and #Interactors to #Africa. She loves seeing how this volunteer experience changes their lives.

Thanks to everyone who attended yesterday afternoon's ceremony at the Auburn Police Department, during which Auburn Rotary, the Horses and Heroes Foundation and the Auburn Police Department dedicated police patrol horse Tarentino Strong in honor of slain Auburn police officer Ronald Tarentino Jr.

Among those shown are: Auburn Police Chief Andrew Sluckis Jr.; the Tarentino family, including Tricia Tarentino, wife of Officer Tarentino; Skyllar Mullvaney of the Foundation, who is a Malden Rotarian; and Karen Benson of Indian Rock Stables. Next week, Tarentino Strong will be put on official duty in Washington, DC, and will be present next weekend for the dedication of Officer Tarentino's memorial name on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial wall.

Our political climate is one of bitterness and rancor; we have become a house divided. Better Angels, launched in 2016, is a bipartisan citizens’ movement to unify our divided nation. By bringing red and blue Americans together into a working alliance, we’re building new ways to talk with one another, participate together in public life, and influence the direction of the nation. For more info, see https://better-angels.org/. I’d like to offer a (free) Red/Blue Workshop to Auburn residents. Facilitated by trained Better Angels citizen moderators, 7 conservatives and 7 liberals/progressives spend a day listening to and learning from each other, rather than arguing, debating, or persuading. The idea is to see if we can better understand our experiences, beliefs and differences, explore any points of common ground, and get to know each other a little bit. Better Angels offered 42 workshops in 2017. These workshops produce measurable results: - less stereotyped thinking about the other side - more trust in the basic humanity and good intentions of those on the other side - a clear, shared belief that we’re less divided than we’ve been told Participants rarely change their views of issues, but they do consistently change their views of each other, and many find the experience so powerful that they say they want to continue to meet and work together in the future. This photo shows the Cary, NC 11/11/17 Red/Blue Workshop participants – after a day together! Folks who lean conservative have red name tags, and those who lean liberal/progressive have blue. If you’d like to participate in a red/blue workshop, or be a non-participating observer, please indicate your interest here, or pm me. Questions? You can reach me at 857-636-0545.
