MCA is developing a statewide strategy for what comes next, and we need your voice to help get it right.

This strategic planning process is about defining what Maine needs next, and how we get there together. It is how we shape Connectivity 2030: a future where access to the internet translates into real, lasting opportunity for people across Maine.

Take our survey today to share your experience, priorities, and perspective on what's working and where Maine should go next.

Since 2021, Maine has made historic progress expanding access to high-speed internet—connecting homes, businesses, and communities across the state. Access was the breakthrough. What matters now is what it makes possible in people’s lives. The next chapter is about what connectivity makes possible for people, for communities, and for the systems we rely on every day

Starting today, MCA is asking nonprofit partners, state agencies, private entities, and the Maine public to inform our strategic vision through 2030 and beyond.

Congratulations to the Liberty Library for being chosen through this competitive program! Libraries are critical spaces where people can connect with reliable healthcare resources and telehealth services.

Liberty Library has been selected for the American Library Association’s Digital Pathways: Online Health Literacy Programming for Adults initiative, a pilot program that supports libraries' online health literacy programming during a nine-month implementation period. Selected through a highly competitive application process, Liberty Library joins a group of 12 libraries across the country participating in the program. It is the only public library chosen in the New England region. As a community hub, Liberty Library will continue to play an important role in helping the adults in our community connect with reliable healthcare resources and telehealth services. This pilot program will help our staff to create innovative programs and local partnership with the Waldo Broadband Corporation. The library will receive an $8,000 stipend to support costs associated with programs.

"But in June 2025, as MCA was getting ready to distribute the money, the NTIA restructured BEAD Program requirements, only funding infrastructure plans. According to MCA, that left the agency with over $200 million undelivered."

This federal funding is less than the $272 million the Maine Connectivity Authority was originally allocated before guideline changes.

MCA is seeking proposals from qualified consultants to assist with the facilitation of Environmental and Historic Preservation compliance review in support of MCA in fulfillment of its role as Joint Lead Agency for the Broadband Equity Access and Deployment program.

As Joint Lead Agency, MCA is the primary administering agency for the BEAD program in the State of Maine, and must design a compliance program to support subgrant recipients in compliance with National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and other Environmental Planning and Historic Preservation requirements, consistent with BEAD requirements.

Submissions are due February 27. Read the full RFP and apply: https://www.maineconnectivity.org/opportunities

“We’re making it easier for people to live, work, and do business everywhere in Maine. Everywhere. People like Rob and Alice, a couple who wanted to move to a small town in Maine but they needed high-speed internet for work.

Seven years ago, there was no way they could have moved to a place like Bremen, Maine and have fast enough internet. But thanks to our investments in broadband, that’s exactly what they did. Now, Alice and Rob are deeply involved in their community, and just this past fall they welcomed a baby boy to their family.”

–Governor Mills, State of the State Address

MCA is creating opportunities across Maine by enabling high-speed internet access and digital readiness. Our work is made possible through public investment, state leaders including Governor Mills, regional partners, and local champions. Thank you again to Rob and Alice for sharing your story and reminding us all just how significant this work is.
