βœ… All students and staff are safe and sound.

Today, an incident involving fireworks in a T.W. Josey Comprehensive High School restroom caused a loud noise that disrupted the school day for Josey High, Murphey Middle, and the Marion E. Barnes Career Center.

Out of an abundance of caution, administrators immediately secured the campus while Richmond County School System (RCSS) Police investigated. Normal operations have since resumed at all schools.

RCSS Police are addressing this incident in accordance with the Code of Student Conduct and Discipline. We take all incidents seriously and address them quickly to ensure the safety and well-being of our students and staff.

Families are encouraged to discuss with their children the importance of making safe choices, monitor their social media activity, and remind them to consider the impact of their actions both on and off campus.

πŸ“ž If you ever see or hear something concerning, please report it immediately to your school or call our anonymous Safety Tip Line at (706) 828-1077.

**Updated Severe Weather Status - RCSS Schools Closed Sept 30**

During a 1:00 pm briefing, the National Weather Service upgraded Richmond County to Tropical Storm Warning status. The upgrade means that our community is expected to have periods of 40-50 mph winds and heavy rains throughout the day tomorrow which impacts our ability to transport students safely on school buses. In response to the new information, all Richmond County School System schools and offices will be closed on Friday, September 30 for a severe weather day. School will resume as scheduled on Monday, October 3.

Due to severe weather projected in Richmond County, the College Board has rescheduled the SAT from October 1 to October 15. Check the College Board website for more information.

As our 8th grade students are preparing to take the PSAT 8/9 on February 24 we are offering test taking tips with families to ensure they are prepared.

When reviewing questions on the test, read the question in its entirety before glancing over the answer options. Students can choose the wrong answer by not reading the question and jumping straight to an answer.

This month we recognize and celebrate the more than 400 years of history and contributions of African-Americans in the United States. The Association for the Study of Negro Life and History (ASNLH) sponsored national Negro History week in 1926 to coincide with the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass. President Gerald Ford officially recognized Black History Month in 1976.
