T. W. Josey High School Alumni Class of 2011

T. W. Josey High School Alumni Class of 2011 In Loving Memory of Darnell Brown, Ashley Pierre, and Eugene Brown. W. This was an extraordinary class, one that cannot and will not be forgotten.

In August of 2007 a group of students from their various Richmond County middle schools came together as freshmen of the Thomas Walter Josey Comprehensive High School. To their knowledge, they would be commencing their journeys as ordinary high school students, but little did they know, they would be commencing the four-year journey that would soon birth "Eagles of a Greater Excellence." Over the

years, some came, some left, they even witnessed their share of tragic losses, but still they rose to the occasion. There were good times, and challenging times - times of disagreement and misunderstanding, but still they rose to the occasion. Many said what they couldn't and wouldn't do, what they would be and would not be, but still they rose to the occasion. On May 23, 2011 at the hour of 5:30 in the evening, they stood together, walked together, cried together and celebrated together ONE LAST TIME as STUDENTS of the T. Josey High School, and at the end of that day, each and every one of them departed from one another with their various diplomas and, instead of saying, "So long, farewell, or good-bye," they said things like, "see you soon, see you later, and best wishes!" It was no surprise to the families and friends, Richmond County Board members, various teachers and other dignitaries that together, students of the class received well over 1.5 Million dollars in scholarships and grants, nor was it a surprise that over half of the class graduated with distinction! They rose from "Eagles of a Greater Excellence," to "THE Eagles of THE Greater Excellence." They dedicate their future success in society to the words of their Alma Mater, "When we have gone away, out in the world alone, still we shall work for Josey and to thee honor bring." All hail the Alumni Class of 2011.

Praying for the safety of all as Hurricane Matthew travels the Southern Atlantic coast. Don't delay! Start now being proactive. Store up your water, non-perishable food items and emergency supplies. Make sure you have flashlights with durable batteries. Make sure you have an up to date first aid kit. A good idea is to have an old-school flip phone during this time as their batteries last much longer with minimal use. Finally, pay attention to the news and do not dismiss the warnings. When advised, evacuate immediately and seek shelter in a safe place. God be with you all!

"Precious memories, oh how they linger!"

The T. W. Josey High School Alumni Class of 2011 mourns the passing of our beloved classmate, Mr. Eugene Brown. To many he was a friend, a brother, but he was also a father, a son, and like us, an Eagle soaring amongst Eagles, and now he has landed and is at rest. There are no words, no thoughts, no songs, no poems - there just isn't any source sufficient enough to bring ease to the sorrow felt by those who loved him. We can only love one another, grieve with each other and pray for more strength, peace and understanding. Our love and support is with the family of Mr. Brown as they mourn. Information concerning the memorial service(s) will be released at the family's discretion. Eugene, the Class of 2011 loves you, and while we will miss you immensely, we take some consolation in that you may trade your green cap and gown for a crown and white robe. Rest on, and bye for now.

From the T. W. Josey High School Alumni Class of 2011, to ALL of the mothers out there: Happy Mother's Day!

Greetings to ALL Eagles both current and Alumni, and to our supporting families and friends!

The time has come again for us to join hands, ground our feet and stand strong with ONE VOICE and tell the Richmond County Board of Education, "NO! DON'T CHANGE A THING!"

For those of you who may not be aware, Murphy Middle School will soon merge with T. W. Josey High School forming a school of grades 6 - 12 (by assumption). A special committee has been formed with the ideas of changing the NAME, COLORS, AND MASCOT of T. W. JOSEY HIGH SCHOOL. We cannot sit back and allow this to take place! This is NOT RCBOE'S school, THIS IS OUR SCHOOL, that our tax dollars and donations fund daily!

If you even care a little, not just about Josey High School, but the rich history it adds to the history of Black people in Augusta, Georgia, PLEASE, take this stand in saying NO!!!

There will be a public meeting Monday, January 11, 2016 at the Richmond County BOE at 6PM to discuss this matter and receive input from the people! LET'S BREAK THE MAXIMUM OCCUPANCY OF THAT PLACE! FLOOD THEM OUT AND SPEAK OUT! If you have to work, we understand, but consider this: how many times have YOU taken a stand for Josey and how much longer will YOU sit on the side lines looking at these subtle yet detrimental attacks?

Meet us at the RCBOE next Monday at 6PM sharp! And while you're at it, go to www.change.org and search for the petition that is ongoing, just search keyword "Josey" and SIGN THAT PETITION!

If you're a Josey Alumnus, remember the words of the Alma Mater you sang as you graduated, "When we have gone away out in the world alone, still we shall work for Josey and to thee honour bring!"

Thanks,

My Lord, what a beautiful Eagle...she's taken flight from the nest soaring high, drifting into the heavens, into Paradise to rest forevermore and await the return of The King. Now from the wings of an Eagle to the wings of an angel, may God in His awesome splendor and might, gently rest the soul of Natalia Tyson.

Greetings to all Alumni of the T. W. Josey High School Class of 2011. Again, congratulations to those who completed their commencement exercises, graduating from their various institutions of education this year. May God continue to bless you and enable your prosperity as you endeavor to be greater than you were before.

A new school year has begun for the students and faculty of our dear Alma Mater and the energy of the "Eagle's Nest" has already taken flight. This year, challenge yourselves to be more involved in the promotion and advancement of T. W. Josey High School. Remember, we as alumni have a lifelong commitment to our Alma Mater; let that commitment begin and end with the students therein. Starting today, ask yourselves, "Am I helping to make a positive difference in the journey of a student at Josey?" Do not forget the special someone who made an investment in your future during your tenure. Let's pass it on!

As the Home-coming season approaches, all alumni are encouraged to not only participate, but represent the Class of 2011 - represent us with PRIDE and DIGNITY. Remember, only we can bring shame to our name. Let's be proactive in our planning and ex*****on of plans for our participation and representation this year. More information concerning the Home-coming events will be posted in the T. W. Josey High School Alumni Class of 2011 Group as it becomes available. If you haven't joined the group, please do so now.

I look forward to seeing each of you someday soon, and it is my prayer that the Grace of God, His peace, His mercy and His guidance encompass you now and throughout your lifetime. If His presence is to be with you, you must also be with Him: include Him in every aspect of your life, and watch Him make a difference. Take God with you wherever you may go, and where He won't go you better not go.

With Great Aspiration,
Octavius D. McClattie, BBA.
