Do you check for ticks daily? A daily tick check is important to help prevent tickborne diseases. Use tweezers or a tick spoon and make sure to check all over your body for tiny ticks. Find more information at www.maine.gov/dhhs/vectorborne.

It's going to be hot out there today....some suggestions from our colleagues at the Maine CDC are below 👇

Tomorrow looks like a hot one for many areas of Maine. Our bodies are not adapted to the heat yet. On the first hot days of the year, it's especially important to take breaks in the shade or A/C and drink plenty of water. Stay cool and with these tips

💧Stay hydrated
☀️Avoid being in the sun too long
👴Check on older adult family members & neighbors
🚗Never leave kids or pets unattended in your car

Big feelings can be a lot for little ones—and for parents, too! Every child processes emotions in their own way, and it’s not always easy to know what they need.

Small steps like talking about feelings or creating a calm corner can make a big difference. Remember, support is out there for both you and your child.

The Maine DOE and the Maine DHHS Office of Child and Family Services are continuing the Early Learning Solutions Lab Community of Practice through December 2026 to support stronger partnerships across Maine’s early childhood education system.

This monthly professional learning opportunity brings together educators and community partners to explore topics like sustainability planning, family engagement, kindergarten transitions, and more — all focused on strengthening Maine’s mixed delivery system for young learners.

OFI will be at some Maine Maternal Heath Mobile in May! We have committed to having an Eligibility Specialist at many of the Health Mobile’s stops, so individuals can apply for MaineCare, SNAP, and TANF while they are accessing health resources and services.

The mobile unit offers
✍🏽maternal education,
🧑🏻‍⚕️meetings with a public health nurse and lactation consultant,
🩺blood pressure and depression screenings,
🚗car seat safety checks, and
🚼access to free resources like diapers.

The Maternal Mobile Health project is a collaborative effort with a nonprofit agency called Maine Mobile Health and DHHS agencies like Public Health Nursing, WIC, Help Me Grow, and OFI, plus the Penquis Prevention Council. Services are available to anyone who stops by the mobile!

This is a great example of strong collaboration in support of new parents and improved public health.
