Zoning 101 Educational Series: Flyer 4 of 5

Why does your input matter?

Zoning has been used by local governments for more than 100 years to help communities manage growth, guide land use, and support public health, safety, and general welfare.

Historic note:
New York City adopted the nation’s first comprehensive zoning ordinance in 1916 as a way to guide how the city developed as it continued to grow.

In Georgia:
Zoning is also tied to public process. Georgia’s zoning procedures include public hearing requirements because zoning decisions can affect residents, neighborhoods, businesses, property owners, and future development.

That is why your input matters.

As Augusta updates its Zoning Ordinance, residents, business owners, neighborhood leaders, developers, and community stakeholders are encouraged to share feedback.

Your feedback can help identify community priorities, neighborhood concerns, development challenges, opportunities for improvement, and how future growth may impact different areas of the city.
