“Firefighters dedicate their lives to the protection of life and property. Sometimes that dedication is in the form of countless hours volunteered over many years, in others it is many selfless years working in the industry. In all cases it risks the ultimate sacrifice of a firefighter’s life.

International Firefighters’ Day is a time where the world’s community can recognize and honor the sacrifices that firefighters make to ensure that their communities and environment are as safe as possible. It is also a day in which current and past firefighters can be thanked for their contributions.”

They just couldn’t leave us out of it. They had to go ahead and include us in the latest Watch… which is a Tornado Watch…. and which runs until 4:00 in the morning (nooooo!). Forecasters still aren’t sure exactly what will develop as we get deeper into the time period where we’re supposed to be sleeping (thanks, M.N.!), but there is an uncomfortable collection of storm ingredients accumulating in southern KS. Any storms that visit could produce large hail, damaging winds, and (since it is a Tornado Watch), a few tornadoes. At night. Be VERY sure that your method of receiving warnings is the kind that will wake you up (if you manage to actually get some sleep).

🌪️The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for Butler County until 9:00 PM!
Stay weather aware!

This morning we hosted a rope rescue training where we were joined by Rose Hill Fire, Andover Fire, and Heavy Rescue. We trained on a few different topics ranging from anchoring a rope rescue system, patient packaging in a stokes basket, and setting up a rope rescue. We also worked on retrieving a patient trapped under a culvert.
Having multiple departments and multiple members bring their tools and knowledge really helps when sharing ideas and techniques! Butler County is blessed with the best!
