We love impromptu training opportunity for some of our newbies.

In this last year, we have acquired 3 new members that completed their fire certifications in January. And we have a few folks in the waiting to start their fire certificate classes.

Here is our current fire conditions for the state. You can see on the map that we are in the High to Very High fire warning level. Please be very careful with any burning. Keep fires in a fire ring and keep them small. No open burning allowed. Please be safe with any kind of open flame. We will continue to follow the DNR recommendations.

Yesterday, in preparation for Memorial Day, our Fire Department Family took some time to place veteran markers and flags at Rauha/Town of White Cemetery.

It is such a small thing we can do, but it is one way we can help honor and remember those who served our country and especially those who gave the ultimate sacrifice so we can enjoy the freedoms we have today.

As Memorial Day approaches, we hope everyone takes a moment to remember the true meaning behind the holiday. It is more than an extra day off or the unofficial start to summer—it is a time to reflect, honor, and remember the brave men and women who gave everything in service to our nation.

Their sacrifice will never be forgotten. 🇺🇸

We’re deploying three fire engines accompanied by three FireRanger crews to assist with the wildland fire situation in Minnesota.

Ontario is a member of the Great Lakes Forest Fire Compact (GLFFC), a partnership with Manitoba, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin. This Compact operates under the broader Alliance of Forest Fire Compacts, allowing member jurisdictions to share personnel, equipment and aircraft during periods of heightened wildland fire activity.

‼️Update. The National Weather Service has expanded the Red Flag across central and northern Minnesota. Additional counties include: Aitkin, Beltrami, Benton, Carlton, Cass, Crow Wing, Hubbard, Itasca, Kanabec, Koochiching, Lake Of The Woods, Meeker, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Pine, St. Louis, Stearns, Todd, and Wadena ‼️
Due to dry conditions, high winds, and low humidity, the National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for today, May 14, for parts of northwest, west central, and southwest Minnesota.

While the Red Flag Warning is in effect:
❌Don’t burn brush and yard debris!
⚠️Be extra cautious with outdoor activities that could produce heat or a spark. Campfires are discouraged.
✔️Check ash piles from wood-burning stoves or heaters and any recent fire for lingering heat. Embers can stay hot for days, even months, and rekindle in Red Flag conditions. If you find heat, drown with water, stir, and repeat until it's out COLD.

‼️The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch for Friday, May 15, for most of central and northern Minnesota. Fire Weather Watches are evolving situations and can quickly progress to Red Flag conditions. Use caution and check conditions before burning.

Remember, only you can prevent wildfires!

Burning restrictions are in place for many counties. Check current fire danger and restrictions at www.mndnr.gov/burnrestrictions
