A band of strong to severe thunderstorms is expected to develop across Kansas this afternoon and spread northward into Nebraska during the evening hours. Some of these storms will be capable of producing 2 inch hail and wind gusts to 70 MPH. An isolated tornado will also be possible early on, favoring our north central Kansas counties.

We have been notified that there will be no DMV in Aurora at the fairgrounds April 28th.

The County Assessor will still be at the 4H building from 9:45 to 11:45 am.

This is shared from the assessors office:

Due to the construction of the courthouse, if you need assistance filling out your Homestead Exemption paperwork, the Assessor's office will be at the 4-H building at the Fairgrounds tomorrow, April 14th from 1-3 pm. This is the same building that the DMV is in. If the DMV is not there, we will still be there.

Other dates are:

April 28th from 9:45 to 11:45 am

May 12th from 1 to 3 pm

May 26th from 9:45 to 11:45 am

You have until June 30th to file your Homestead paperwork.

Residents:

The Hamilton County Highway Dept will be performing a road maintenance project on 11 Road east of Hwy 14. This portion of roadway will be closed to traffic from Monday April 13 thru Wednesday April 15.

We were just informed that there will be no DMV today.

The Driver Licensing Office in Aurora (Hamilton County) will be closed, Tuesday, April 7, 2026, due to staff shortage.

We are not sure if it’s the moon phase or what to blame it on, but it’s been a weird week for our Highway dept.
People illegal dumping trash, and now we have people stealing gravel from the county roads as well as people removing required bridge signs.
Our employees try very hard to get gravel across the county, so please leave it on the roadways. The traffic signs are also a very necessary need as they keep the road users safe.
All of these weird happenings are punishable with fines, so let’s work together and not endanger others.
