Today is a bittersweet milestone - EMT Paulina has spend the last two weeks in - here from Colorado to help with the transition. Paulina was a huge help and not only brought answers to the teams questions but also brought her fun, positive energy! Thank you for loaning us this member of the team to help with the transition! Today she was celebrated on her departure by being named the Positivity Potato 🥔 - hard to see in the picture but that’s a trophy worthy of a mantle for sure!!!

Week 1 recap at - first order of business - the flag pole was missing something very important last week! And, did you know that without a way to keep your flag lit at night, it comes down! Know this, you can trust your EMS director when not only does she know how to fold it, but her daughter does too!

The team is learning new platforms and processes - which in EMS is rarely “enjoyable” they are learning to work with new teammates and through it all, still responding to your 911 calls without delay! Use this post to comment your support for the highly skilled professionals who have joined the team as new members and those who have made the transition - from either position their courage to join us should be celebrated and their dedication to the entire city and county should be applauded.

We don’t have pictures of everyone on the team, we will work on introductions over the coming weeks.

In the meantime, as always, we encourage you to call, email or simply stop by the station - just to say hello or ask questions and shake hands.

Back in May someone asked us about our retention - sometimes we are really proud to not “lose” an employee - we are proud to be a part of their story! Landon graduated boot camp this week after his time with us in Colorado.

Nobody likes to see a member of the team leave, but in this instance we are so proud we lost an EMT!

From EMT to Enlisted - soon to be combat medic 🇺🇸
Proud isn’t a big enough word. Landon started with us as an EMT — now he’s serving his country. We watched him grow, and now we get to support his new adventures. Go get ’em, Lando. 💪

Tonight’s introduction is not a person - it’s a capability, backed by dedicated professionals committed to excellence in patient care!

This is an team conducting training on the transport ventilator from Zoll. The Impact Vent. Capable of multiple modes of mechanical ventilation in addition to terms you might have heard: CPAP and BiPap!

For patients intubated (the breathing tube) that need pressure ventilation, volume ventilation - assisted to synchronize with intrinsic breaths or full respiratory support. And, the patients we want to keep from being intubated: via a mask, CPAP is one-way constant air pressure. BiPAP is two-way that helps exhale air back out.

Learning to safely care for patients who require this degree of care is no small task. Mastering not just the machine but the medications and proper settings and fine tuning of the device will take commitment and professionalism! Give your team a high 5 and a round of applause for the service they will be bringing to our community!

It’s been busy busy at -buttoning up loose ends. A quick double intro:

The ambulance in the back - that’s Grace! She’ll be joining the Aurora fleet. Every apparatus gets a name - Grace was named by the team when she was brand new 2 years ago. She’s been serving in Colorado, Kansas and Nebraska the last two years, now that she’s found a home in NE plates will be a priority! The ambulances that have been serving Aurora will remain in Aurora - any name suggestions for the team to choose from?

In the other ambulance, sitting passenger, Mike! He’ll be a new face in town soon. A 20+ year veteran, Critical Care Paramedic!

Critical Care means an ambulance with more medications and more equipment to safely transport patients with higher acuity needs!
