Bringing Hope, Support, and Compassion to Colorado Families Battling Cancer

Cops Fighting Cancer is a nonprofit organization made up of law enforcement officers and civilian volunteers united by one mission: helping cancer patients and their families through some of life’s most difficult moments.

The organization provides individualized financial assistance for essential expenses, practical support for families in need, and emotional encouragement to remind every patient that they are not fighting alone.

You can help make a meaningful difference by donating, volunteering, sponsoring an event, organizing a fundraiser, or simply sharing the mission with your community.

Together, we can bring strength, comfort, and hope to Colorado families facing cancer.

Today is a very special day for me and this is how Cops Fighting Cancer got started 39 years ago. August 17th 1987 I was diagnosed with a very rare form of leukemia. The doctors told me that my odds of surviving were only thirty percent. The next six months were horrific for me because of the extreme vomiting and painful procedures. My weight went from 215 lbs to 165 lbs with alot of uncertainty on whether I was going to survive or not. We were the early test patients because they really didn't know how much the patients could endure with these high doses of chemotherapy. This was worst experience of my life. My family and friends supported and encouraged me even though I almost stopped all the treatment because it was so grueling. All of this took place in my home town of Buffalo NY as I just entered the police academy. Just imagine your life being turned upside down at only 26 years old. There were times when I almost stopped the treatment because I thought dying would be easier. By the GRACE of GOD I endured and made it through and got back on my feet after being inactive for a year. I went back and finished the police academy and worked for almost seven years as a police officer and then I moved to Aurora Colorado in 1995. I started Cops Fighting Cancer in 2002 when we first started going to Children's Hospital in Denver to support the kids. We had our first fundraiser in August of 2003 and that was when Cops Fighting Cancer got started. We have helped and supported literally thousands of kids and families over the past 24 years. When I look back at my life GOD had a plan for me and he brought me through this storm for a purpose. There is no doubt that GOD wanted to utilize me as his vessel to help and support the various cancer families over the years. Yes, this organization was started by my unfortunate situation years earlier but this was meant to be my calling in life. Without the support of the community and the various businesses and the numerous departments from across the state we wouldn't have survived almost twenty four years. Please continue to support our organization because cancer has not disappeared and families continue to suffer. Please go to our web site at Copsfightingcancer.org and donate or support our future events. We truly appreciate your support for almost 24 years. GOD BLESS and stay healthy!

Cancer may test the body, but it can never measure the strength of the human spirit. Behind every diagnosis is a person still dreaming, a family still hoping, and a community refusing to let them fight alone.

Cops Fighting Cancer is more than a cause, it’s a promise to stand beside those facing their darkest days, to carry hope when it feels too heavy, and to remind every warrior that courage is not the absence of fear, but the decision to keep going through it.

Until every battle is won, we stand together. 💙🎗️

Behind every badge is a heart that cares.

Cops Fighting Cancer stands beside the brave children, individuals, and families facing one of life’s most difficult battles. No one should have to fight cancer alone. Through compassion, support, and the strength of our community, we want every family to know that we see them, we care about them, and we will stand beside them every step of the way.

The fight is personal. The hope is shared. Together, we are stronger than cancer.

Tomorrow 8/6/2026 we will have the celebration of life service for our wonderful friend Caleb McCune. Caleb was an awesome young man and he was loved dearly by his family and friends.Cops Fighting Cancer and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office will perform his swearing in ceremony for Caleb at his service. We were unable to do so because he unfortunately passed away the day before we had this event scheduled. Cops Fighting Cancer and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office will partner together on this day in remembrance of our friend and to support his family. We are extremely GRATEFUL to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office for making this happen. We are extremely honored that we will have this opportunity to recognize our great friend. Much THANKS to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office and Sheriff Darren Weekly for making this happen.
