North Willamette Research and Extension Center NWREC is part of the Oregon State University College of Agricultural Sciences.

Our mission is to conduct horticultural crops research, extending new knowledge to industries and communities, particularly in the Willamette Valley. The North Willamette Research and Extension Center, referred to as NWREC, is a 160 acre research farm located just south of Wilsonville Oregon in the heart of the Willamette Valley. NWREC is one of 10 farm research and Extension branches operated thr

ough Oregon State University’s College of Agricultural Sciences as part of Oregon Agricultural Experiment Station (AES). NWREC researchers, Extension faculty and supporting staff focus their work and programming on Oregon’s most important local agricultural commodities including: nursery stock, berries, hazelnuts and tree fruits, fresh market vegetables and seed production, and Christmas trees.

Today, NWREC was pleased to host the Oregon Olive School! 🫒

Attendees are enjoying a full day of learning and networking, featuring presentations from experts including soil scientist Nate Stacey, updates on the Emerald Ash Borer, OLEA project updates, and an olive nutrition presentation by Paul Vossen.

The day also includes an olive oil tasting and a field tour of NWREC’s olive plantings, providing participants with hands-on learning opportunities and valuable insights into Oregon’s growing olive industry.

Thank you to all of the speakers, organizers, and attendees who made this event a success!

Coming in July and being held in our new Extension Pavilion! Christmas Tree IPM and Shearing for High-Quality Trees Workshop. 🌲

The hazelnuts are looking great at NWREC! 💚

As the orchard continues to develop, we’re excited to watch another promising crop take shape. The Hazelnut/Orchards Program, led by Nik Wiman does an amazing job!

Did you know? Oregon produces more than 99% of all hazelnuts grown in the United States, making it the nation’s hazelnut capital! These iconic nuts are one of Oregon’s top agricultural commodities and are enjoyed around the world.
