35 years ago today the 140th Wing received their first F-16 Fighting Falcons.

Since 1991, these jets have flown all over the globe including multiple combat deployments during the Global War on Terror. Just this year, our Airmen, many of whom are younger than the aircraft they operate, brought the F-16s on a deployment to the Indo-Pacific theater where they participated in critical training exercises simulating wartime environments.

Meet Your Home Guard!

Staff Sgt. Jaime Serrano joined the 233rd Space Group, Greeley Air National Guard Station at 38 years old, heading to basic training at 39. His desire to serve was inspired by his family legacy: his grandfather served in the military in Mexico. He also possesses a deep sense of gratitude to the country that gave his family so much.

That spirit of service carries over into his daily life as a deputy with the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, where he has served for six years following three years with the Colorado Department of Corrections. Choosing Security Forces in the Guard was a natural extension of his passion for law enforcement.

“I just wanted to serve my country. It’s a way to say thank you to the United States,” Serrano said. “My parents are immigrants from Mexico. I just wanted to say thank you to a country that has given us everything.”

To prepare for basic training alongside recruits nearly half his age, Serrano spent months training to ensure he was in tip-top physical shape. “In a way, I’m at a disadvantage compared to an 18-year-old,” he said. “So I had to prepare myself five or six months prior. I didn’t want to have any excuses.”

Looking ahead, Serrano plans to complete 20 years of military service, with hopes of eventually retraining into fields like cybersecurity or maintenance down the road.

From serving his local community as a deputy sheriff to protecting his country in the Air National Guard, Serrano’s dedication to giving back remains seamless.

The Colorado National Guard is currently supporting Pueblo law enforcement, managing traffic control points for road closures and evacuated areas near the Aspen Acres Fire, Pueblo, Colorado. 🔥 🔥 🔥

National Guardsmen live and work in the communities we serve. In times of crisis like this, we’re neighbors helping neighbors.

More than 80 service members were activated after Colorado Governor Jared Polis declared a state of emergency and authorized the Colorado National Guard to mobilize in support of the fire response. At the time, the Aspen Acres Fire was the largest wildfire in the state, having burnt nearly 100,000 acres.

Meet Your Home Guard!

Introducing Tech. Sgt. Christina Delaney, a member of the 140th Wing Chaplin Corps, Colorado Air National Guard.

As a Religious Affairs Airman, she walks alongside her fellow Airmen to provide spiritual care, support moral well-being and share tools to build spiritual resilience. She works with chaplains to facilitate the Strong Bond events for Airmen and their families, which is designed to strengthen relationships through education, communication training, and relaxation.  Helping to maintain the Guard’s warfare readiness.
 
Out of Uniform, she helps her clients with their estate planning needs by providing trust administration and estate settlement, ensuring their will and trust documents are up to date.
 
Additionally, she volunteers her time educating the communities’ youth about the importance of good credit, budgeting and saving for retirement!
 
She has 8 years prior service active-duty Coast Guard, with 5 years in the Colorado Air National Guard, building on 13 years of service.

“I love serving in the military because you are a part of a selfless organization and because you belong to a unique family. More specifically, in the Chaplain Corps I get to be a counselor, mentor, listener and friend.”

We started the 4th of July a little early with our own fireworks! 🎆

The 140th Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Flight celebrated a ribbon cutting of a new facility at Buckley Space Force Base by demonstrating a set of detonations. The new proficiency range will allow the 140th EOD can complete their monthly qualifications, and much of their annual qualifications locally. As well, EOD can expand their relationships with local bomb squads, federal entities and regional EOD units.
