For the past two weeks, the 140th Fire Department has conducted joint training with the Marine Corps at Marine Corps Air Station Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. This training strengthened interservice relationships and facilitated an exchange of tactical expertise.

Yesterday, 140th Security Forces Squadron executed Operation Iron Flag, a hands-on, combat-simulation exercise to train in the field.

The 140th SFS are executing their annual training at Bellows Air Force Station, Waimanalo, Hawaii implementing jungle warfare movements, land navigation and nonverbal signals.

Yesterday, the 140th Civil Engineering Squadron roofed cabins, fixed eroding areas, and installed plumbing at Bellows Air Force Station.

The 140th CES is currently executing their annual training in Hawaii to prepare for a contingent environment in the INDOPACOM region aligning with the National Defense Strategy.

The 140th SFS are executing their annual training at Bellows Air Force Station, Waimanalo, Hawaii by learning jungle warfare movements, land navigation and nonverbal signals from the Tactical Tracking Operations School June 11, 2026. The 140th SFS will continue their training with a Field Training Exercise (FTX), a hands-on, combat-simulation exercise to train in the field.

Welcome Home!

After a successful deployment to Kadena Air Base, Japan, our Colorado Air National Guard Airmen are back on American soil.

The 140th Wing operated alongside joint and allied partners across the Indo-Pacific, rapidly generating F-16 combat airpower, mastering mass airlift operations, chemical warfare survival training, and executing critical refueling and munitions missions. Their grit, adaptability, and professionalism strengthened interoperability and reinforced America’s commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific.

To the families, friends, and loved ones who waited patiently for their return, thank you for your strength and support.

Meet Your Home Guard!

Staff Sgt. J Petrie’s spirit of service comes full circle!

Petrie joined the Colorado Air National Guard 22 years ago as a metals technologist, machining and welding to repair the F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft and support equipment. This skill transferred to his civilian career where he works as a contractor in a Department of War investment program working with new technologies and capabilities. Now, Petrie is preparing to take his next big step: commissioning as an officer within the 140th.

“On the outside, I have a really good civilian career, and I wouldn't have had that without the springboard of this training,” he said. “So I took this training, went out in the civilian world, into a machine shop, ultimately running the machine shop, leading a huge team of people, and I wanted to really bring those skills back here and help lead here by developing more people.”

A Colorado resident for 25 years and a "guard baby" in the Air National Guard, Petrie has spent over two decades balancing his military duty with a robust civilian career. “Everything that we do here, hopefully, deters an adversary's future actions on our homeland, which protects my family.”

From managing civilian teams to commissioning in the Guard, the environment may change, but his commitment to protecting his family, developing his people, and serving his country remains seamless.

Petrie’s spirit of service is also rooted in his family legacy. “I lived close by and saw the jets flying all the time,” he said. “My dad was active duty in the Air Force back in Vietnam, and so I thought I’d check out the Guard.”

“I think the other thing is just how unique and how rare of an opportunity it is to serve,” he said. “If we look at the United States population, and how many people put their hand up to serve, and then, if you break that down into this career field, you see how much of a limited number of people there are who volunteer and can do the job and qualify to do the job. It's such a small, small number of people. It's just unique and special.”

Today the Colorado National Guard had the distinct honor of supporting the US National Archives Freedom Plane Tour. Colorado Army National Guard provided a transfer of documents from the aircraft to ground transportation, while 140th Wing provided the event's color guard.

The Freedom Plane Tour is a traveling exhibition bringing nine Founding-era documents to cities across the U.S. in commemoration of America's 250th birthday. The documents include an original draft of the U.S. Constitution, a rare engraving of the Declaration of Independence, and the Treaty of Paris that ended the Revolutionary War.

These documents can be viewed at History Colorado between May 28-June 14.
