4️⃣4️⃣❤️🖤💚Aurora in Black is deeply honored to have be invited to tour the new Obama Presidential Center ahead of its grand opening on Juneteenth. It was both an emotional and exhilarating experience to stand in the present while walking through history and seeing a glimpse of the future. No words can adequately describe what has been created on the South Side of Chicago. It is a moving tribute to a legacy that lives not only in beautiful monuments and history books, but in daring dreams and audacious aspirations.

💵These outstanding scholars will each receive a $2,000 scholarship to support their college journey during a SPECIAL SCHOLARSHIP PRESENTATION AT the 2026 Aurora Juneteenth Flag Raising Ceremony at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 19, at Aurora University.

❗️💰The City of Aurora African American Heritage Board has provided more than $100,000 in college scholarships to our college-bound youth over the past two decades. The annual scholarship is named in honor of the late great Aurora icon, Mr. Henry Cowherd, namesake of Cowherd Middle School.

💵The City of Aurora African American Heritage Advisory Board voted to financially support both Barry Miller’s 1st Music in the Park on Saturday, June 13 and Ricky Rodger’s 25th Annual Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 20:

❤️🖤💚IN 1 WEEK: MUSIC IN THE PARK
Get ready for an afternoon of live music, community connection, and summer vibes at Music in the Park on Saturday, June 13, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Lebanon Park in Aurora. This free community event will feature performances by Thomas Melvin "The Melman," Lisa Holmes, Pearl Newson & Souled Out Thursdays, Funk Brotherz Band, DJ Khaaliq, and DJ Cahill. Bring your lawn chairs, support local vendors, and enjoy a relaxing day filled with great music, fellowship, and positive energy as Aurora kicks off a week of Juneteenth celebrations.

Join the community on Saturday, June 20, 2026, from 2:30 PM to 6:30 PM at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park in Aurora for AAMOU's 25th Annual Juneteenth Celebration. This free event will bring together culture, creativity, and connection through live music, poetry, storytelling, performances, food and craft vendors, health and wellness resources, and family-friendly activities including dance contests, games, chess, and basketball tournaments. Come celebrate the history, resilience, and achievements of our community while honoring the spirit and legacy of Juneteenth.
