Today, our amazing educators and staff gathered for an inspiring day filled with learning, connection, and celebration as we kick off the 2026-27 school year.

We were thrilled to officially welcome our new superintendent, Dr. John Price! Dr. Price delivered an inspiring message reflecting on the rich legacy of IPSD 204 and sharing a powerful vision for continuing to build on our foundation of excellence.

Congratulations to Waubonsie Valley High School alum Vanessa DiBernardo and Metea Valley High School grad Zach Wood on their recent induction into the Illinois Sports Hall of Fame. DiBernardo, a 2010 Waubonsie grad, won three state soccer championships before going on to play at the University of Illinois and then the National Women’s Soccer League, where she is a midfielder for the Kansas City Current. Wood, a 2012 Metea grad, was a two-time All-State player for the Valley Co-Op lacrosse team. He set state records for goals, assists, and career points, then played at the University of Virginia.

Congratulations to Cowlishaw student Nihira Vuppala for being selected as a grade-level winner in the 2026 Gwendolyn Brooks Youth Poetry Awards competition. This year, 1,063 poems were submitted for the contest and Nihira's poem, "The Copper Secret", was one of just 26 poems in Illinois to be honored. In September, Nihira will be honored at a banquet in Chicago where the poem will be read.
