Aurora Firefighters Respond to Three Second-Alarm Structure Fires Over Weekend
Aurora, IL – The Aurora Fire Department responded to three separate second-alarm structure fires over the weekend, including fires on Greenlake Drive, South 4th Street, and Zengele Avenue. The incidents involved active fire conditions, displaced residents, and extensive fireground operations by responding crews.
The first fire occurred on June 6 at approximately 1:55 p.m. in the 1400 block of Greenlake Drive. Crews arrived to find fire involving the roof area of a 2½-story single-family home. All occupants were safely out of the residence, and firefighters worked to check for fire extension into the attic. No injuries were reported. The home was deemed uninhabitable, displacing four adults.
The second fire occurred on June 7 at approximately 4:31 a.m. in the 500 block of South 4th Street. Crews arrived to find smoke coming from the attic area of a 2½-story single-family home. Firefighters advanced a hose line to the attic and brought the fire under control with the first-arriving companies. Eleven adults were displaced, and two cats were rescued. No injuries were reported.
The third fire occurred later that morning, on June 7 at approximately 9:41 a.m., in the 200 block of Zengele Avenue. Crews arrived to find significant fire conditions on the front side of a two-story single-family home. Firefighters used multiple hose lines, conducted searches, and performed ventilation and overhaul operations. One adult resident was transported for smoke inhalation, and one firefighter was transported for evaluation of a minor injury. The home was deemed uninhabitable, displacing one adult.
“Responding to three separate second-alarm fires in less than 24 hours is a testament to the dedication and professionalism of our firefighters,” said Aurora Fire Deputy Chief Kevin Nickel. “In each incident, crews faced unique challenges, worked quickly to protect lives and property, and prevented further damage through coordinated fireground operations.”
