It has always been a pleasure to work with Brad Cole and his staff and member colleagues at the Illinois Municipal League. At their recent Annual Conference, they presented me with their Bridge Builder Award for our work together on behalf of the 1,294 cities, villages and towns across the state.

I am truly humbled this week. I've received several tributes from associates and friends I have worked with over the years, from municipalities, labor organizations, professional associations and community institutions.

The Kendall County Board has given me so many opportunities to represent the county in the State Senate. I hope the legislation we've coordinated and passed have served Kendall County well and may have served other counties in Illinois. Thank you for this, and for good memories of our work together.

I'm honored to have received the James J. McGlynn, Sr. Legislative Leadership Award for my work with the Electrical Contractors Association of Chicago throughout the years. Being a strong union supporter, I understand the value of the union electrical construction industry in Illinois; I'm proud to have represented them in the Illinois Senate.

I am grateful to be recognized by the Illinois Municipal Electric Agency, a statewide trade association, with their Public Service Award. IMUA is a trade association representing more than 40 municipalities that own and operate their electric, natural gas, water, wastewater treatment and telecommunication systems throughout Illinois.
Sometimes our communities underestimate the important role our public works play in their daily lives and economic strength. It has been an honor to support their responsibilities and their mission.

I'm so proud to have served in the Illinois State Senate on behalf of the Oswego community. Thank you to the Village of Oswego, Illinois for this honor.

The Oswego Village Board recently approved an honorary street name designation for Wolfs Crossing at the Harvey Road Roundabout in honor of state Sen. Linda Holmes, D-Aurora, for her years of service in the Illinois Senate.

Mayor Tom Hundley recently met with Assistant Majority Leader and State Senator Linda Holmes at her office. Mayor Hundley represents the DuPage Mayor and Managers Conference, as the Vice President. Together, they discussed important ideas on the BUILD Act, FOIA, and the LGDF, along with other key initiatives. Meetings like these are essential in strengthening local leadership and working towards positive change for our communities.

When Spring Session wraps up at the Capitol, I look forward to participating in several legislative updates throughout the 42nd District. Reviewing important legislation with local officials allows me to clarify the reasons I sponsored and voted for, with community-focused impacts. Thanks again to Metro West Council of Government for including me.

Representing Carpentersville beyond our Village borders.

Effective local government doesn't happen in isolation. It happens through collaboration.

Last week, Village President John Skillman, Village Manager Brad Stewart joined municipal officials from across the region for the Metro West Council of Government's 2026 Legislative BBQ & Spring Session Review.

The event provided an opportunity for local leaders to hear directly from state legislators about the outcomes of the Illinois Spring Legislative Session and discuss issues that may impact municipalities across the region.

As President of the Metro West Council of Government, President Skillman joined fellow municipal leaders in discussions focused on legislation and issues affecting communities throughout the region.

Building relationships, sharing ideas, and staying informed helps ensure Carpentersville is prepared for the opportunities and challenges ahead.

Another fine Batavia stop, at Red Hive Market.

Being a small business owner has challenges most never realize we have, so having legislators, such as State Senator Linda Holmes and State Representative Matt Hanson and a supportive chamber like our Batavia Chamber of Commerce, help us in 1. advocating for policies that help small businesses grow and thrive, 2. championing grants, loans, and funding opportunities for entrepreneurs and 3. help improve public safety, making business districts more attractive to customers.

Tom and I are fortunate to have our little shop in the Batavia community!

I’ve enjoyed my visits to local businesses in Batavia over the past several summers. This year’s visits were no exception. As a former small business owner, I understand their challenges and have been proud to represent them at the Capitol in Springfield.
