New World Screwworm cases are making their way closer to the Texas-Mexico border, with some fewer than 50 miles from Texas, and include confirmed equine detections in Mexico. For those in the racing industry, lets work with our Texas Animal Health Commission and U.S. Department of Agriculture partners to keep the screwworm from our racetracks, training centers, and breeding facilities. Follow the TAHC link for helpful prevention and management strategies.

You heard it here, folks! Management practices are in. If NWS gets to Texas, all animal owners and livestock producers should have management practices in place to prevent infestation. The best time to start is now.

➡️Check animals regularly for wounds with larvae
➡️Reduce fly populations
➡️Doctor wounds quickly
➡️Spray your equipment with proper fly repellents
➡️Develop a veterinary-client relationship for prevention and treatment tools
➡️Immediately report suspicious cases to the TAHC and don’t move the animal
