Happy Labor Day! 💪👷‍♀️🇺🇸

My answer: Labor Day is important to me because it is a day to celebrate our workers across the board; to remember the fight for workplace rights, safety, and equality continues.

Today, we adopted Austin’s FY 2026-27 budget. In a difficult fiscal year, I’m proud we protected critical social services and resources that thousands of Austinites rely on. Our budget should reflect our values and ensure Austin shows up for those who need us most.

Starting Wednesday, July 15, at 10 p.m., traffic will shift on the southbound I-35 frontage road just north of Riverside Drive as reconstruction begins on the Riverside Drive bridge over I-35.

During construction, a temporary traffic signal will provide access to eastbound and westbound Riverside Drive, while two lanes in each direction will remain open on the bridge. Drivers continuing south on the frontage road will use the Riverside Drive bypass lane, and pedestrian access will remain available along the south side of Riverside Drive via the signalized crosswalk at Edgecliff Terrace.

These traffic changes are expected to remain in place through 2029, with work on Riverside Drive shifting next year. If you travel through the area regularly, plan ahead and allow for extra travel time.

Over the weekend, I had the opportunity to join community members across Austin in celebrating Juneteenth and honoring the resilience, contributions, and history of Black Americans. Thank you to everyone who helped make these events so meaningful.

Parks play an important role in bringing neighbors together, supporting recreation, and creating a stronger sense of community. It was great to celebrate the future of Sir Swante Palm Park and the continued investment in public spaces that serve Austinites for generations to come.
