Mental Health Awareness Month: Checking In Matters

Sometimes the most powerful thing we can say to someone is, “How are you—really?”

Mental health affects every part of our lives, from how we handle stress to how we connect with family, friends, and our community. Yet many people continue to struggle in silence.

This month, the Austin Human Rights Commission encourages everyone to:

🫂 Check in on a friend or loved one
👂 Listen without judgment
💬 Speak openly about mental health
🤝 Support those seeking help
❤️ Show yourself the same compassion you offer others

Seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Together, we can create a community where everyone feels seen, heard, and supported.

If you or someone you know is struggling, help is available. Call or text 988 to reach the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline anytime.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month — a time to recognize that mental health is just as important as physical health.

Here in Austin, we believe in building a community where everyone feels seen, supported, and valued. Mental health challenges can affect anyone, regardless of age, background, or circumstance. By continuing to have open conversations, we help break stigma and make it easier for people to seek the support they deserve.

This month, we encourage our community to:
• Check in on friends, family, and neighbors
• Take time to care for your own mental well-being
• Learn about local mental health resources
• Speak up and help normalize conversations around mental health

If you or someone you know is struggling, you are not alone. Support is available, and reaching out is a strong and important first step.

Let’s continue working together to create a more compassionate, understanding, and mentally healthy Austin.

Jewish hate speech and crimes are not acceptable. We support our Jewish friends and neighbors here in MN in a time of heightened attacks and those in Bloomfield MI.

Authorities say no one has been confirmed hurt in the incident. All children at the temple’s preschool have been moved out of the school.

We will continue to monitor the situation but please hold this community in your hearts and prayers.
