For the 13th consecutive year, Texas' Governor Greg Abbott has declared October to be "Careers in Construction Month" at the request of the Texas Association of Builders. We encourage our members, local home builders associations, educators and community partners to use the observance to introduce students and job seekers to construction careers. Job fairs, classroom presentations, jobsite visits and conversations with industry professionals can help Texans explore opportunities in the skilled trades and other construction fields. By connecting education with hands-on experience and industry expertise, these efforts help prepare a workforce capable of meeting Texas’ housing and construction needs. Here is the governor's proclamation:

Texas is proud to lead the nation with a robust economy and excellent business climate, and that economy is complemented by a construction industry that upholds an exceptional standard of quality. The contributions of construction workers have laid the literal foundation for the Texas that we know and cherish today. In a state characterized by economic prosperity with a strong emphasis on quality of life, the construction sector remains essential to sustaining the demands of continued growth.
The Lone Star State's construction workforce remains steadfast in meeting this challenge. As our population and economy continue to expand at an unprecedented rate, so does the need for skilled professionals in the industry. Our state stands ready to meet the demand by preparing for the necessary workers who will be required to support this ongoing development in the coming years.
Civic groups and industry professionals have admirably prepared for this demand by standardizing training and providing the next generation of construction workers with the necessary tools to thrive in this industry. With an eye to the future, these groups host job fairs, panel discussions, and community events to develop aspiring construction workers.
Each year, the month of October is set aside to increase public awareness and appreciation of the construction industry. During this month, employers, trade associations, and schools promote the industry's many career opportunities. By retaining and growing the number of skilled construction workers, we will ensure an even brighter future for the Lone Star State.
At this time, I encourage all Texans to learn about our construction industry, to appreciate the work that these dedicated professionals do, and to explore the numerous opportunities that this important sector offers. Together, we can and will build a bigger, better Texas.
Therefore, I, Greg Abbott, Governor of Texas, do hereby proclaim October 2026 to be Careers in Construction Month in Texas and urge all Texans to observe the occasion with appropriate ceremonies and activities.
