☀️ Summer Sanity: Try It Again

Mistakes can become opportunities to learn. Redos give children a chance to practice a better response and experience success, focusing on growth, not punishment.

💛 This week’s challenge: Try using a redo! Say, “Let’s try that again with respect,” or “I know you can do that differently.”

Small moments of practice can build skills that last. Practice makes progress!

☀️ Summer Sanity: Teach the Skill

When children struggle with the same behavior over and over, it may not be because they're choosing to be difficult, it may be because they're missing a skill.

Instead of focusing only on correcting the behavior, look for opportunities to teach and practice the skill you'd like to see when everyone is calm.

💛 This week's challenge: Identify one recurring challenge and spend time practicing the desired skill together before the next difficult moment.

Remember: Skills can be taught; shame teaches nothing.

☀️ Summer Sanity: Prepare, Don’t Surprise

Transitions can be tough, especially for children who have experienced unpredictability. A little preparation can go a long way in helping children feel safe, secure, and ready for what’s next.

💛 This week’s challenge: Give 15-minute, 5-minute, and 1-minute warnings before transitions. Try using a timer on your phone or a visual kitchen timer to help your child know what to expect.

Remember: Preparation prevents panic.

☀️ Summer Sanity: Needs Matter☀️

Sometimes what looks like "bad behavior" is really a child trying to communicate an unmet need.

When children are hungry, thirsty, tired, hot, overwhelmed, or under-stimulated, staying regulated can be incredibly difficult. Meeting those basic needs first can make all the difference.

💛 This week's challenge: Create a simple "fuel-up routine" with water, a healthy snack, and movement before the most challenging times of your day.

Remember: A regulated body supports a regulated mind.
