If you’re an ace speller itching for the spotlight, registration is officially open for First Light Books’ first-ever quasi-competitive Adult Spelling Bee on Saturday, June 20th at 3pm. With rule bending and witty banter encouraged, all proceeds from the Spelling Bee go to support our mission to ignite a love of reading by engaging young children in under-resourced areas of Texas.

☀️ Three dozen adult spellers will bring their best on June 20. Official slots filled BUT day-on chance to compete will be available via a ten sec spelling test. (It’s hard!) Come at 3pm if you want in.

⏰ At 3pm the festivities start w BAD LARRY’S and Cold Ones Pops plus all the drinks for our cafe. 4pm sharp the Spelling Bee is a go.

We'll shout it from the rooftops until our voices give out. More books at home = better reading. Higher literacy achievement and the strongest gain appear for students who have access and receive cumulative "doses" of books.⁠
