We attend funeral and memorial services of our fallen nurse colleagues in the Texas counties of Bell, Travis, Caldwell, Hays, Burnet, and Williamson.

Today, we gathered in a beautiful setting to honor Nurse Jennifer Hoff on the 4th anniversary of her passing. We could feel her presence through her family and co-workers in attendance. Jenn spent her nursing career as a high risk labor a delivery nurse. She held a very special place for those families facing pregnancy loss. It was only fitting that our own nurse midwife, Susan, perform this moving tribute.

As is our tradition, we recognize that Jenn's nursing responsibilities have come to an end. Be comforted to know that here on earth we did not lose her, for she is present in every child she witnessed born and every woman she ushered through the gates of motherhood. She is present in all the nurses and residents that she mentored and supported on their journey. We thank you, Jenn, for taking those hands and showing them how to serve women. We will carry on from here.

TWO years of Nurses Honoring Nurses!

Last night, we gathered to celebrate the work we have accomplished since our formation. We read aloud, the names of the 24 nurses we have honored and shared sweet memories of their selfless contributions to our profession.
We welcomed new members and talked about the profound impact this work has had on us. We talked of how to better serve nurses in our community in support of our mission. We enjoyed the friendships this group has created.

This afternoon , the Central Texas Nurse Honor Guard gathered to pay tribute to Kathleen Soto.
A visionary sees what the future can be and has the imagination, courage, and resolve to help make it real. Such people look beyond the present, challenge the status quo, and inspire others to follow their lead. Kathleen was a true visionary in nursing.
Kathleen began her 32 years of nursing service in 1975 after earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Creighton University. She spent many years caring for underserved communities in South Texas. She started in the Neonatal ICU, tending to fragile infants, but soon felt called to find better ways to improve patient care. She believed nursing was not just about treatment, but about truly caring for each patient.
Later in her career, Kathleen devoted herself to guiding future generations of nurses, driven by her deep commitment to service, especially for those with limited access to health care. Her legacy lives on through educational funding created to strengthen global nursing and advance health equity.
As is our tradition, we recognize that Kathleen’s nursing responsibilities have come to an end. The hands that once comforted, healed, and supported others are now at rest. Her final shift is over, and her work here is finished.
On behalf of your fellow nurses, we thank you for your service, your compassion and your dedication to the noble profession of nursing. You are now relieved of your earthly duties, and we will take over from here.

This morning, members of our group travelled to an area that is not currently served by a local nurse honor guard. As is our mission, we want to ensure that every nurse is honored for their life's work. As we honored her remarkable career, we were deeply moved by the heartfelt stories of her friends and family . The care she gave, the comfort she offered, and the lives she touched form a legacy that will not be forgotten. Thank you Nurse Nancy Thogmartin, we will take over from here.

Today, we paid tribute to Nurse Ida at her community church, recognizing her remarkable legacy. Ida embodied quiet strength and unwavering dedication, answering the call to nursing after the birth of her seventh child. Over the course of 60 years, she devoted herself to the nursing profession.
As is our tradition, we recognize that Ida's nursing responsibilities have come to an end. The hands that once comforted, healed, and supported others are now at rest. Her final shift is over, and her work here is finished. Thank you Nurse Ida, we will carry on from here.

This June marks the second anniversary of the Central Texas Nurse Honor Guard’s first memorial service. In the time since, our chapter has paid tribute to 24 nurses in our community, recognizing a lifetime of compassionate service, dedication, and care.
We will continue to carry their light forward.
