As Commissioner Representing Labor for the Texas Workforce Commission, I’m proud to announce a $489,624 Skills Development Fund grant to Lamar State College Orange, awarded in partnership with GTP, Indorama and Arlanxeo.

This grant will fund training for 241 students in high demand occupations including:

🔥 Fire Safety
☣️ Hazardous Materials Technician
🧯 Fire Rescue

TWC’s Skills Development Fund provides customized training opportunities for Texas businesses and their employees, helping raise skill levels and wages across our workforce. Lamar State College Orange will use these funds to purchase, install, and train on current, industry-based equipment. 🙌 👐

As the voice for labor, I see grants like this as a direct investment in Texas workers. These occupations are regionally recognized as in- demand for the Southeast Texas economy. Students who complete training will be in position for immediate well-paying employment in fields critical to public safety and industrial operations. 💰 🤝

Congratulations to the 16 interns of the Noble Leadership Academy. This summer, 11 college students and 5 high school students got real, hands-on experience across 10 active construction projects – working alongside Noble mentors in Estimating, HR, Communications, Quality Control, Safety, IT, and the Leadership Academy itself. 👏 🙌

Strong workforce pipelines start with employers willing to invest in them – and Noble Texas Builders is a model for that. Noble has built a real bridge between education and career. 📖 💼

I am honored to recognize the partners powering these student internship opportunities: Noble Charities, The Texas Workforce Commission’s Texas Internship Initiative, Rio-South Texas Education & Community Development Foundation, Workforce Solutions Cameron and Workforce Solutions Lower Rio Grande Valley. Texas leads the nation in job growth for another month – and the numbers tell a clear story. New labor market data released by the Texas Workforce Commission and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics confirms what employers, workers, and job seekers across our state already know: Texas is where the jobs are. 📊 🎉

📈 165,600 jobs added over the past 12 months – more than any other state

📈 1.2% annual growth, outpacing the national rate by a full point

📈 414,468,000 total nonfarm job in Texas

📈 Fastest-growing sectors: Professional & Business Services, Leisure & Hospitality, and Construction

As Labor Commissioner at TWC, I see this data as more than a ranking. It’s a reflection of the Texans who show up every day – in our office towers, on job sites, in hotels and restaurants – building the most dynamic economy in the country. Texas has now gained more than 2.6 million jobs and is home to 57 Fortune 500 headquarters and over 3.5 million small businesses. 📍 👏

1st Annual Small Business Summit - Greater Chamber of Harlingen 🙌

Harlingen’s small business community is leveling up! 🎉

I had a fantastic time representing the Texas Workforce Commission at the 1st Annual Small Business Summit. Seeing local entrepreneurs connect with the Economic Development Corporation, Small Business Administration, and Workforce Solutions of Cameron was a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when we work together. 🤝

The day was packed with: Expert speakers, Hands on workshops, and High-value networking. 🌟

Small businesses are the backbone of our Texas economy, and events like this connect entrepreneurs with the tools and resources they need to grow.

As the summer comes to a close, the Office of TWC Commissioner Alberto Treviño III is bidding a bittersweet farewell to our summer intern, Donovan Shackelford. 🤠 🎉

Donovan is a rising 2L at the University of Texas School of Law, but he brought far more than just legal curiosity to our team. With a background in Mechanical Engineering from Cal Poly Maritime and six years of experience at Exxon in construction, process engineering, and maritime logistics, Donovan’s unique perspective on the trades made him an invaluable asset to our Labor office. 💪

Throughout his internship, Donovan dove deep into: UI case analysis and briefings, Policy and program analysis, Budget collaboration and strategic planning, and all meetings involving the labor office. ✍

What truly set Donovan apart was his final presentation, "Connecting Talent to Trade: The TWC Mission." To bring his research to life, he toured local unions and met with representatives to see firsthand how our work impacts the workforce. It was a full-circle moment that perfectly bridged his engineering roots with his future legal career. 👏

Donovan, we learned as much from you as you did from us. Your work ethic and personality made you a perfect fit for our staff. We will miss you in the office, but we wish you the absolute best of luck as you head into your 2L year! Hook’em! 🤘 😊

Excited to have been in Rio Grande City yesterday for a grant presentation that will directly change students’ futures. Workforce Solutions Lower Rio Grande and the Rio Grande City Economic Development Corporation are teaming up to strengthen the Career & Technical Education Program at Rio Grande City Grulla ISD – and TWC is proud to bring matching funds to the table alongside the Rio Grande City EDC’S $86,787 investment. 👏 🌟

This means new equipment for construction, welding, culinary, automotive/collision repair, and dental assistant courses. This will allow more hands-on learning and pathways to respectable careers. Additionally, 80 students in the Accounting & Financial Services program will earn VITA/Tax Counseling certifications through South Texas College. Our CTE educators will get real professional development, including AWS Welder & Inspector certification training. 🚧 🥽 🍽️ 🚗 🪥

This is what workforce development looks like when local partners and the state show up together. Today I had the privilege of visiting West Texas and presenting an $81,867 Skills Development Fund grant to El Paso Community College in partnership with Novipax Buyer. 👐 🌟

This investment will help train 40 students for high-demand careers in Industrial Electronics, Blueprint Reading for Manufacturing, and other in-demand skills that strengthen our workforce and create pathways to good-paying jobs. 👌💪

The Skills Development Fund is a great example of how partnerships between education, industry, and the state can equip Texans with the skills employers need while supporting continued economic growth in our communities. 🤝

Congratulations to El Paso Community College and Novipax Buyer on this exciting partnership. A special thank you to Alberto De La Vega, William Serrata, Blayne Primozich, Dr. Carlos Amaya, and Armando Abarca. 👏

As we mark the 36th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, we celebrate a law that has expanded opportunity, strengthened our workforce, and reinforced the principle that every Texan deserves the chance to succeed. ✨ 😊

As Commissioner Representing Labor, I believe one of our greatest responsibilities is ensuring that every Texan who wants to work has a fair opportunity to build a meaningful career. The ADA continues to serve as a foundation for that mission. Together with our 28 Texas Workforce Solutions Boards, we’re building stronger pathways to employment and ensuring opportunity reaches every corner of our state. 🤠 🌟

Our Vocational Rehabilitation professionals are helping thousands of Texans with disabilities gain the skills, training, and support they need to enter and thrive in the workforce. Their work not only changes lives – it strengthens our labor force by connecting employers with talented dedicated workers who help meet the demands of our growing economy. ☺️

An inclusive workforce benefits everyone. When workers have access to opportunity businesses gain valuable talent, communities grow stronger, and Texas remains the best place to work and do business. 🤝 👌

Today I had the honor of presenting a $150,000 Texas Industry Partnership grant on behalf of the Texas Workforce Commission to Workforce Solutions Lower Rio Grande in partnership with The PossAble Dream Foundation and The PossAble Dream Adult High School. 🌟 🤩

This investment will provide training for 22 students preparing for high demand careers as HVAC Technicians and Medical Assistants, helping connect Texans with meaningful career opportunities while strengthening the workforce employers depend on. 🔌 🩺

Strong partnerships like these are building a skilled workforce and creating brighter futures for students, families, and communities across Texas. Congratulations to everyone who made this collaboration possible. As Commissioner Representing Labor, I look forward to seeing the success of these students and the lasting impact they will leave. 🙌 🤝

Turning Truth into Action: Supporting Texas Youth Transitioning from Foster Care

During my time at the Foster Youth Conference, I had the privilege of learning directly from a panel of former foster youth. They shared their deeply personal truths - the uphill struggle to secure stable employment, the heavy weight of navigating adult finances alone, the unfair labels they’ve spent years trying to shed, and the profound loneliness that often comes with aging out of a system built to protect them.

Their raw honesty was incredibly humbling. It serves as a stark, powerful reminder of exactly why robust workforce readiness and transitional programs matter so deeply.

As Commissioner Representing Labor, firsthand conversations like these are vital. They actively shape how we design and deploy resources at the Texas Workforce Commission. We are fully committed to breaking down these systemic barriers and equipping our foster youth with the tangible tools, mentorship, and career paths necessary to build a secure, stable, and independent future. 💪

I want to extend my deepest gratitude to these incredible young leaders for their presence and voice: Jayden Martinez, Michael Adams, Victoria Gracie Lemley, Ariyana Shelby, and Tai Kapaji. Your courage to be vulnerable in front of a full room was a profound gift to all of us, and it strengthens our resolve to ensure the Texas workforce is an inclusive place of opportunity for you all. 🩶
