“We were three women who wanted to do it, and we did it.”

That’s how Chris Strickland remembers the start of Actual Lives, a groundbreaking theater program that began with a chance meeting between two grad students and grew into a partnership with Art Spark Texas and Celia Hughes.

From recruiting cast members to a standing ovation in Washington DC, this is the story of how three women built something that gave creatives with disabilities a lasting stage. Today, that work lives on through Art Spark Texas’ biannual Speaking Advocates program and the True Tales of Disability Advocates Podcast 🎙️
