At the June 9, 2026 Borough Council Meeting, Austin Borough proudly welcomed its inaugural Junior Council Persons. Mayor Jim Setzer administered the oath of office to Elyssa Leightley and Leah Kio, both members of the Austin Area School District Class of 2028.

This new program is designed to encourage youth involvement in local government by providing hands-on experience in municipal governance, community planning, and public service.

Throughout their term, Elyssa and Leah will attend Borough Council meetings, participate in discussions, and help develop community-focused projects that benefit Austin Borough.

We are excited to grow this program and create opportunities for more young people to learn about local government, civic engagement, and leadership while helping shape the future of our community.

Please join us in congratulating Elyssa and Leah as they begin this exciting journey in public service!

🌡️ Heat Advisory: Prepare for Hot Weather Next Week

The National Weather Service is forecasting a significant heat wave across much of the eastern United States next week, with temperatures and heat index values expected to climb throughout the week.

While exact local conditions may change, residents should be prepared for several days of above-normal heat, especially later in the week.
Please remember to:

💧 Drink plenty of water throughout the day

☀️ Limit prolonged outdoor activity during the hottest hours

🏠 Take breaks in air-conditioned or shaded locations

👵 Check on elderly neighbors, family members, and anyone who may be vulnerable to heat-related illness

🐾 Ensure pets have access to fresh water and shade

Early-season heat can be especially dangerous because our bodies have not yet fully adjusted to summer temperatures.

The Borough of Austin encourages everyone to stay informed, take precautions, and watch for updated forecasts from the National Weather Service.

Stay safe and stay cool. 😎

A great opportunity to connect with fellow borough leaders at the Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs Annual Conference.

This photo highlights representatives from Austin Borough, Port Allegany Borough, and Coudersport Borough who continue to work together on issues affecting our region. Strong partnerships between municipalities help us share ideas, tackle common challenges, and advocate more effectively for the residents we serve.

Thank you to everyone who dedicates their time to strengthening our communities through local government service.
