🚨 PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: PLEASE DO NOT FLUSH WIPES 🚨

“Flushable” wipes have caused clogs in our lift stations and wastewater treatment plant pumps.

“Flushable” does NOT mean flushable in the Borough of Austin.

Wipes do not break down like toilet paper and can clog pumps, cause backups, and lead to costly repairs.

‼️‼️‼️PLEASE NEVER FLUSH WIPES.‼️‼️‼️

This includes flushable, baby, cleaning, disinfecting, makeup-removal, and other disposable wipes.

Wipes belong in the trash.

Toilets are for toilet paper and human waste.

Thank you for helping protect Austin’s sewer system.

Heads up, if you're able to make it: there's a Rural Health Plan town hall happening in Emporium on August 19th, 6 to 7:30pm, at Cameron County High School Auditorium (601 Woodland Ave).

The Pennsylvania Rural Health Association and Cameron County Commissioners are putting it together so people in our area can actually weigh in on health care access, behavioral health, maternal health, workforce shortages, broadband, all the stuff that hits us hardest out here. Local health systems and decision makers are supposed to be there too, so it's a real chance to say what you're dealing with, not just listen to a presentation.

If you've dealt with long drives for care, long waits, or worry about what happens if services keep shrinking around here, this is worth an hour and a half of your evening.

Light refreshments too.

As Pennsylvania's new budget moves forward, it brings continued opportunities that can benefit rural communities like Austin.

What it means for Austin:

• Funding opportunities remain available for infrastructure, and community development.

• Continued investment in roads, bridges, water, and sewer projects can help improve services.

• The key is being prepared. By planning ahead and pursuing grants, Austin can continue moving important projects forward.

Most importantly, this budget is a reminder that there is reason to be hopeful. Austin's future isn't determined by the size of our town. Rather, it's shaped by the dedication of the people who call it home.

With hard work, collaboration, and a shared vision, we can continue building a stronger community for generations to come.

BREAKING: The Pennsylvania House and Senate have passed the 2026 state budget. It will now head to Gov. Josh Shapiro's desk for approval.
