At Austin Public Schools, our mission is to inspire, empower, and accelerate every one of our learners, and we know that the only way for us to reach this goal is through the efforts of all our incredibly hard-working staff.

In this week’s Staff Spotlight, we’re highlighting PI Academy teacher Amanda Gilbert.

"Mrs. Gilbert is insightful, dedicated, and motivated to be the best teacher for her students. She cares deeply that all students' needs are met and works tirelessly to ensure that all students are challenged in their thinking. Her calm in the classroom is reassuring to the students, and they know that she cares for them."

Congratulations!

If you’d like to nominate an outstanding Austin Public Schools staff member for our weekly Staff Spotlight, please take a moment to fill out the form at https://www.austin.k12.mn.us/district-resources/aps-staff-spotlight. It only takes a minute and can truly make someone’s day. Thanks!

Thank you to the Austin Police Department and our dedicated crossing guards for helping our students get to and from school safely each day.

Keeping students safe is a community effort. As the school year gets underway, we appreciate our crossing guards, law enforcement partners, families/caregivers, and drivers who slow down, stay alert, and watch carefully around our schools and throughout the community.

Thank you for looking out for our students. Every Learner. Every Day.

As the new school year is officially underway, we want to recognize the important work of our crossing guards and thank them for their dedication. These valued members of our community help ensure that children safely cross busy streets as they travel to and from school each day.

If you see one of our crossing guards around the community, please take a moment to thank them for the important service they provide!

*And please always stay focused while driving and slow down anywhere around the town with schools now in session. We appreciate your help in keeping everyone safe too. *

Robyne Tiedeman, Pat Walter, Renae Hall, Sheila Lorimor, Jack Lorimor and Capt. Dustin Wollenburg.

🎉 Austin Public Schools will join school districts throughout the state to salute their local school board members during Minnesota School Board Recognition Month in September.

The commemorative month is designed to recognize the contributions made by Minnesota's school board members, including the Austin School Board, who are charged with governing public education under state law.

Minnesota school board members are chosen by their communities through election or appointment to manage local schools. They oversee multimillion-dollar budgets that fund education programs for more than 870,000 students in more than 2,200 schools. Their personnel decisions affect more than 57,000 teachers and thousands of administrators and support workers.

Also, these volunteer leaders are responsible for formulating school district policy, approving curriculum, maintaining school facilities, and adhering to state and federal education law. Legal concerns and the complexities of school finance, including budgeting and taxation, require them to spend many hours in board training programs and personal study to enhance their understanding of these issues.

Our deepest appreciation is extended to the dedicated men and women who make it possible for local citizens to participate in education in our community. We salute the public servants of the Austin School Board whose commitment and civic responsibility make local control of public schools in our community possible:
🍎 Dr. Carolyn Dubé
🍎 Peggy Young
🍎 Carol McAlister
🍎 CeCe Kroc
🍎 Don Leathers
🍎 Robert Hartman
🍎 Dan Zielke

Please join us in saying thank you to our school board members during Minnesota School Board Recognition Month.
