August Breakfast Recap: Creative Water Solutions

At our August Breakfast, panelists tackled one of the most pressing questions facing Central Texas: how do we secure enough water for decades of growth? From drought-of-record planning and hundred-mile pipelines to building-scale reuse and the rising cost of water, the conversation made one thing clear. The future of Texas water is a diversified portfolio, and the work starts now.

Swipe for notable takeaways.

Thank you to our panelists, Brady Franks (Texas Water Development Board), Brian Perkins, P.E. (Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority), and Megan Thomas, PE, PMP (Epic Cleantec), and our moderator, Gaby Mier, LEED AP (WITH.), for a candid and insightful conversation.

👏 Thank you to our Platinum Underwriter, Allensworth | Texas Construction Lawyers, and Gold Hosts, Lake Flato Architects and Pape-Dawson, for supporting this event.

Congratulating Our 2026 Vision Award Winner—David Steinwedell

Last night, ULI Austin presented the 2026 Vision Award to David Steinwedell, founder and Chairman of the Board of the Texas Housing Conservancy, at the ULI Austin Impact Awards at Austin PBS headquarters on the ACC Highland Campus.

The ULI Austin Vision Award recognizes an individual who has made an outstanding lifetime contribution to the Austin region. Steinwedell is a 45-year commercial real estate veteran who pioneered a nationally recognized approach to preserving workforce housing. Through the Texas Housing Conservancy Fund—the nation's first to pair a nonprofit investment manager with an open-end private equity fund—he has helped invest more than $500 million in moderate-income multifamily housing across nearly 3,000 units.

A past Executive Director of ULI Austin and recipient of the 2024 ULI Global Award for Excellence, Steinwedell has dedicated his career to expanding housing access and strengthening the next generation of real estate leaders, including through his partnership with Huston-Tillotson University's Real Estate Scholars Program.

Congratulations, David, and thank you for your lasting impact on Austin and beyond.
