Texas State Guard communication Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) Sgt. Maj. Steven Troudt, Chief Warrant Officer 2 Michael Farley and Cpl. Frankum Taylor instruct members of 2nd Brigade, Texas State Guard in the set up and operation of High Frequency Radios during a training session at the Texas National Guard Armory in Houston, Texas, June 27, 2026. As 2nd Brigade is located in southeast Texas, much of it along the coast, guardsmen represent the tip of the spear in disaster response. This training prepares them to use these radios during disaster response to facilitate effective town to town and county to county communications when local infrastructures are degraded or inoperable. Attendees became proficient in setting up the equipment, including a 40 foot antenna mast and radios for both voice communications and the sending of data packets. Well done! 2nd Brigade is "ad omnia parati" (Ready for Anything) (Texas State Guard photo by Chief Warrant Officer 2 Gregory Illich)

Guardsmen of 2nd Battalion, 2nd Brigade, Texas State Guard, sharpened their Land Navigation and Search and Rescue skills in both daytime and nighttime operations during a Field Training Exercise (FTX), Conroe, Texas, Aug. 8-9, 2026. Alpha, Bravo and Charlie companies combined to focus on basics in rope skills including knots for rescue operations; lensatic compass training and land navigation, both wide area and tight area/evidence searches and nighttime search and rescue. The FTX ended with the introduction of the new Mission Readiness Test to ensure the readiness of TXSG service members to meet the demands of duty while on mission in austere environments. It is a change from old standards in order to mirror tasks we do as Texas State Guardsmen. Well done all! 2nd Brigade is "Ad Omnia Parati" (Ready for Anything).
