Texas Archive of the Moving Image The Texas Archive of the Moving Image (TAMI) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization in serving Texas.

Founded in 2002 by film archivist and University of Texas at Austin professor Dr. Caroline Frick, the Texas Archive of the Moving Image (TAMI) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization working to discover, preserve, provide access to, and educate the community about Texas’ film heritage. TAMI’s ever-growing online collection includes home movies, amateur films, advertisements, local television, industr

ial and corporate productions, as well as Hollywood and internationally produced moving images of Texas. By partnering with institutions and individuals across the state, TAMI digitizes and provides web access to thousands of moving images that offer insight to Texas’ history and culture. TAMI’s educational programs promote the sharing of Texas moving images via screenings, demonstrations, and lectures at venues across the state. TAMI also works with educators to encourage the use of Texas film in the K-12 social studies classroom.

✊🏾 Happy Juneteenth!

In this footage from 1975, reporter Alvin Herbert attends Houston's Juneteenth Freedom Festival, one of the early organized celebrations led by Reverend C. Anderson Davis, later known as the "Father of Juneteenth." At the time, advocates were working to raise awareness of the holiday and secure official recognition for its importance in Texas history.

Today, Juneteenth is celebrated across the nation, but its roots remain firmly planted in Texas. This archival footage captures a pivotal moment in the movement to preserve and share that history.

This Pride Month, we're sharing a clip from Changes: The Transs*xuals, Part I (1979), a Houston television news special featuring transgender Texans speaking about their experiences growing up, navigating gender dysphoria, and finding language for their identities.

At a time when transgender voices were rarely featured in mainstream media, programs like this documented personal stories that might otherwise have been lost to history.
