Wow! I do not know about the rest of Austintown, but I cannot wait until this election is over! It sure has brought out the worst in some. I hope we can see through the smokescreen of ignorance that has consumed our town by a vocal few.

It is really inspiring to see so much support for this page. We have a lot to be proud of in Austintown. Our schools are excellent and our township is headed in an exciting direction. Please continue to post your positive comments, and together we can quiet those who would make us look bad to make themselves look better.

On the news this evening... Thank you Austintown Schools for giving us parents peace of mind when our children are at school. We are WAY ahead of the curve in school safety and security, and we should be thanking our current leadership for being so forward thinking.

The Austintown Local School District is one of just two districts in the state of Ohio to get federal money to add school resource officers, which will expand its already strong security system.

Thank you Austintown Schools for being proactive with programs, such as, D.A.R.E and keeping police presence in our schools. The safety of our children is their first priority!

"The Austintown School District is being awarded a $250,000 security grant.

The U.S. Department of Justice COPS Hiring Grant will allow two resource officers to work in two school buildings for a three years period.

Superintendent Vincent Colaluca noted the they have had success with the D.A.R.E officers working in the schools, and says he hopes the resource officers have the same type of relationship with the students.

Colaluca says the officers can assist with school security and safety, bullying prevention and even cyber bullying.

There will be a press conference on Tuesday Oct. 29, 2013 specifically detailing the new security plan and what it will do for the school system.

Colaluca said in the release that the Austintown Police Department was "instrumental in securing the funding."
