About the Marine Corps League
The Purpose of the Marine Corps League:
Former Marines who were honorably discharged, along with all of the Marines who are currently serving in the United States Marine Corps as they have worn the eagle, globe and anchor with great pride, as they band together for the sole purpose of camaraderie and fellowship. These Marines help preserve the Marine Corps tradit
ions, it's history, along with observing all anniversaries of any historical importance to all Marines, along with promoting interest from within the community for the United States Marine Corps. Furthermore, the Marines help promote the ideals of American freedom, along with coming to the aid of all former Marines and active duty/reserve Marines, FMF Corpsmen, and their families as they render their assistance in a time of need. The History of the Marine Corps League:
The Marine Corps League was first founded by Major General Commandant John A. LeJeune, a World War I hero in 1923, as the Marine Corps League soon became the only federally chartered Marine Corps related veterans organization in the United States as it was approved by an Act of the Seventy-Fifth Congress of the United States of America, as it was soon approved and signed into law by then President Franklin D. Today, the Marine Corps League has a membership of approximately 76,000 men and women, from former Marines and FMF Corpsmen who were honorably discharged, to active duty and/or reserve Marines who are currently serving their country in the United States Marine Corps, officer and enlisted, along with a small few who actually came from the other branches of the military. The Marine Corps League is led by the National Commandant at the National Headquarters of the Marine Corps League, which is located at Merrifield, Virginia, as the Marine Corps League is broken down into 48 different departments or states, and over 1,000 different detachments as they are spread out across the entire United States and overseas. And lastly, the Marine Corps League is the only non-profit veterans organization in the United States that has provisions within the Internal Revenue Service Code 501(c)(4), as it contains an exemption letter, which now allows the League to give contributions not only to the Marine Corps League itself, but also, to the Marine Corps Ladies Auxiliary, etc., as it is now a tax deductible organization.
