Box and Deputy Evans on May 23, 2026, for Endangering the Welfare of a Child 1st degree, Endangering the Welfare of a Child 1st degree, Property Damage 1st degree, and Resisting, Interfering with a Felony Arrest. A warrant was later obtained, and due to York's extensive criminal history for similar offenses, no bond was set in this case.

Sgt Box, along with Deputies J. Pueppke and S. Evans, responded to the residence, upon arrival they observed the storm door broken, broken glass everywhere, and several plants on the porch where knocked over.
Upon knocking, the suspect, C**t York, came to the door and began walking away when he saw the deputies. The homeowner opened the door, and deputies located York in the kitchen, where they gave him verbal commands to stop and get on the ground. York did not comply with the directives and was assisted to the ground and placed in handcuffs.
York has an extensive history with numerous arrests for endangering the welfare of children and resisting arrest.

The search warrant was to seize illegal narcotics and the body of Quistio Eustler, age 38, of Ava. Eustler had an outstanding Douglas County warrant for Endangering the welfare of a child with a bond of $5000.
The search warrant was served just after midnight. Both subjects refused to comply with directives to get on the ground. Deputies assisted them to the ground, where they were placed in handcuffs and were taken into custody after a brief altercation.
A search of the residence and Dalton Young's vehicle resulted in the seizure of fi****ms, m**hamphetamine, psilocin mushrooms, and scales.
A warrant was issued for Eustler for Possession of a controlled substance m**hamphetamine, Unlawful use of a weapon by possessing m**hamphetamine and fi****ms, resisting, interfering with arrest for a felony, and unlawful possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Bond was set at $10,000 cash only.

During the early morning hours of May 14, 2026, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office served a narcotics search warrant on O Highway in the Goodhope area of Douglas County after a several-week investigation by Sgt. Aaron Box.
At the time of service, Michelle Walker, age 55, of Ava and Phillip Thomas, age 33, of Oldfield were taken into custody. Upon entering the residence, the subjects had just prepared two lines of m**hamphetamine to snort on a chalkboard on the bed. Deputies seized m**hamphetamines and a firearm as a result of the search warrant.
Both subjects were placed on a 24hr hold pending formal charges.
Surprisingly enough, Walker is a convicted felon and is on probation for delivery of a controlled substance and had visited her probation officer the prior day and stated she was clean. Deputies did locate synthetic urine used to falsify a urine test. Walker did admit that she was currently under the influence of m**hamphetamine at the time of her arrest.
A warrant was issued for Walker for possession of a controlled substance, m**hamphetamine, Unlaw possession of a firearm (felon in possession), and Unlawful use of a weapon by possessing m**hamphetamine and a firearm. Bond was set at $5000 cash only.
Another surprise, Phillip Thomas is a convicted felon and is currently under the supervision of Probation and Parole. Thomas has 13 prior arrests and was released from the Department of Corrections on March 11, 2026. Thomas admitted that he was currently under the influence of m**hamphetamine at the time of his arrest.
A warrant was issued for Thomas for possession of a controlled substance, m**hamphetamine, Unlaw possession of a firearm (felon in possession), and Unlawful use of a weapon by possessing m**hamphetamine and a firearm. Bond was set at $5000 cash only.
Upon arriving at the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, before entering the jail, both subjects disclosed that they had m**hamphetamine concealed upon their person. Deputies seized 2 baggies containing m**hamphetamine from the subjects that would have been discovered by the body scanner.

Sheriff Degase would like to thank the Ava Police Department for their assistance in serving the search warrant.

“I cannot recognize enough the tenacity and dedication of my Deputies in this pursuit to rid our county of this poison. We are determined to kick in every door and arrest those who are using and distributing illegal narcotics in Douglas County. The system has spent a tremendous amount of resources trying to help those who use illegal narcotics. I am all for helping those who are first- and second-time offenders, but that is where my empathy stops. People can choose to disagree with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office's aggressive approach to the enforcement of illegal narcotics, but I can assure you that ignoring the problem or enabling it is not the answer. A message to those of you who continue to use and distribute illegal narcotics: QUIT OR MOVE out of Douglas County. It's just a matter of time before it's your door.” Sheriff Chris Degase
We would like to thank the Ava Police Department for their assistance in serving the search warrant
