Woodbridge River Watch

Woodbridge River Watch The Woodbridge River Watch was founded in 1988 by 6 concerned citizens of Woodbridge Township. The members worked hard to restore the Woodbridge River.

In August of 1988 the Woodbridge River Watch was organized by a group of 6 concerned citizens.Their purpose was to clean not just the streams that connect to the Woodbridge River, but also the River itself. Through their efforts, a Township Resolution was passed designating 40+ acres of Green Acres property as the Woodbridge River Watch Wildlife Sanctuary in Port Reading. It provides a forever ho

me for birds and animals that inhabit the area. Two walking trails were planned to give our residents a place to view the bird and animal life. It's been estimated that because of their efforts, approximately 9 to 10 tons of debris was pulled from the waterways. This included things such as shopping carts, automobile engines, cans and bottles. We now work to maintain the gardens and trails at Ernie L. Oros Wildlife Preserve on Omar Ave. in Avenel. We are also planning on clearing debris from several other streams in Woodbridge that empty into the river. We always welcome new volunteers!

Thank you very much Matt, Jay and Chris for all your help today!! They're not just members but good friends too! And they tell funny stories, so we're always laughing.

It took several hours but we trimmed the weeds and lots of Poison Ivy along the Woodpecker Trail.
Matt and Chris cut some Phragmites too, but there's so much of it. The Parks Dept cut the main trail. Thank you for doing that too!

Today is National Trails Day. Come on out to enjoy our local Wildlife Preserve, Oros Park!

A frequent visitor told me yesterday that he took one of these ticks off his clothing. It's a Lone Star tick. According to Middlesex County Parks Dept., these are now in the county.

A gorgeous day to check the garden and trails at Oros Park. The trails need some work, but overall they're ok. Just avoid the Whitetail Deer Trail and please remember to use tick spray!

Pollinators have economic and health benefits, but those benefits have been difficult to quantify. A new study puts some numbers to how important pollinators are for both nutrition and income.

There were more visitors at Oros Park today. A group from Monmouth County came to find birds that have migrated to the area. Paul, a staff member from their Parks System, was the guide.
The rare King Rail bird has attracted quite a lot of attention! Lucky for us, it found our park!
