Throwback Thursday: Let’s go back for one more look at the village of Averill Park that the Wilkinsons, Wergers, and Carpenters lived in. All the photos show the village in the early 1900s. The first shows Main Street Route 43 looking east. The variety store Paula’s Country Kitchen is in the back to the left. This photo may be earlier than 1900.
Next is the old Lakeview also known as Gabeler’s. Next is Traveler’s Rest owned by G. A. Winters featuring Bolton’s Ale and Quandt’s Lager. Miller's Auto is located on the site today.
The final picture shows Hilke’s Hotel, formerly Scram’s Collegiate Institute. The car, an old Maxwell, belongs to Norman Vickery. His wife Lillian Wilkinson Vickery is in the car with Clara Hack standing next to the car.
The only one of these buildings still standing is the one in the background in the first photo.

Thanks as always to SL Town Historian Moore for sharing these photos and info.

Throwback Thursday: We’ll wrap up the Wilkinson, Vickery, Taylor and Sanford family series with these @1905,
Johnny Cake/Averill Park photos. First is Jennie Taylor with the old wooden bridge over the Wynantskill on Eastern Union Turnpike in the background. Next are Clara Wilkinson, Jennie Odell and Etta Werner with the lovely hats; Tin Can Alley on the left. The next shot looking east of the village we can see the old fire house on Route 43 and Dr. Reichard’s home is on the hill to the left.
Finally, we have the old Burkhardt home on Eastern Union Tpk. Sitting on the steps are l-r Nettie Taylor, Sanford Young, Lillian Vickery, baby Madolyn Vickery (former Town Historian), Mabel and Charles Vickery.

Thanks once again to our wonderful Sand Lake Town Historian Bob Moore for this peek at our past.
