Last night ALPD welcomed its newest officer to the Force, Eric Richards. Eric brings 17 years of experience from RTA police to Avon Lake. Also, Sergeant Troy Descenzo was sworn into his new rank of Lieutenant. Welcome Eric! Congratulations Troy!

Avon Lake Regional Water will be performing waterline work at the intersection of Lake Road, Lear Road, and North Point Drive next week, beginning June 15. Work is expected to be completed June 19.

Lear Road and North Point will be closed at Lake Road to all traffic during this time, and Lake Road will be down to one lane of traffic with temporary traffic signals.

Lake Road is now open.

Lake Road closed between Moore Road and West Shore Road due to down pole and low hanging wires. Detour available- Moore Road north of Lake Road to West Shore Road in both directions.

****2nd UPDATE****
1 accident, 2 telephone poles, 3 utility trucks, and 10 hours later…Lake Road is now OPEN.

Thank you all for keeping traffic to a minimum in this busy stretch of road while the utility crews worked.

****UPDATE****
Lake Rd will continue to be closed from Brookfield to State Route 83 for up to 12 hours. A main power line running from south of Lake Rd to the north side of Lake Rd needs replaced and this will be a labor intensive job.
CEI has a crew with the ability to accomplish this on the way.
In addition, there will be no access to Lake Rd. From the city pool, you must use Electric Blvd. to access and exit the pool.
Please continue to avoid this section of Lake Rd. so crews can get this job completed and be able to reopen the roadway as soon as possible. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation

****ROAD CLOSURE****
Due to an early morning, single car accident, Lake Rd Westbound is currently closed between Brookfield and State Route 83 to avoid low hanging power lines.
This closure applies to vehicular, pedestrian, and bicycle traffic.
CEI, Brightspeed, and Spectrum have all been notified and we will notify you when the road is open.
Thank you for avoiding the area to let these crews work to reopen the roadway.

, Union Pacific's famed Big Boy No. 4014, the world's largest operating steam locomotive, will journey through Lorain County as part of its historic coast-to-coast tour to celebrate .

Big Boy is scheduled to pass through Lorain near W. 11th St. and Reid Ave. on Monday, June 8, with an arrival time of 11:15 a.m. EDT and a departure time of 11:30 a.m. EDT. You can track this historic steam engine's journey online at https://www.up.com/about-us/history/steam/track.
