🚓 Ever Wonder What It’s Really Like to Be a Police Officer in Eagle County? 🚓

The Avon Police Department, Eagle County Sheriff’s Office, Vail Police Department, and Eagle Police Department are excited to announce the 18th Annual Citizens’ Police Academy!

Join us for an engaging, behind-the-scenes look at local law enforcement and gain firsthand experience with many of the tools, training, and challenges officers encounter every day.

📅 Mondays, September 14 – November 16
⏰ 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
📍 Eight interactive classes throughout Eagle County

Participants will explore topics including:
✅ Crime scene investigations and fingerprinting
✅ DUI enforcement and sobriety testing
✅ Public Safety Communications (911 Dispatch)
✅ SWAT and self-defense techniques
✅ Defensive driving in a marked patrol vehicle
✅ Tour of the Eagle County Detention Facility and Courtroom
✅ Fi****ms Training Simulator (FATS)
✅ An evening at the firing range with fi****ms instructors

The Citizens’ Police Academy is limited to 25 participants and is open to adults aged 18 and older who successfully pass a background investigation.

National Night Out — Complete!
What an incredible evening! Hosting National Night Out at three locations across Avon is no small task, and it truly takes a village to make it happen. Thanks to the hard work of our officers, staff, volunteers, community partners, and the many families who came out, the event was a tremendous success.

This morning, alongside the Avon Police Department and Eagle River Fire, we honored fallen firefighter Nathan Matthews.

Matthews, a Rifle Helitack firefighter from the Upper Colorado River Interagency Fire Management Unit, died July 24 as a result of injuries sustained while responding to the Knowles Fire in Mesa County on June 27.

He dedicated his career to protecting lives, communities and public lands, serving alongside fellow wildland firefighters with courage, professionalism and an unwavering commitment to others.

Nathan, thank you for your service and sacrifice. May you rest in peace.

Esta mañana, junto con el Departamento de Policía de Avon y el Departamento de Bomberos de Eagle River, rendimos homenaje al bombero fallecido Nathan Matthews.

Matthews, bombero de la unidad de extinción de incendios forestales Rifle Helitack de la Unidad Interinstitucional de Gestión de Incendios del Alto Río Colorado, falleció el 24 de julio a consecuencia de las heridas sufridas mientras respondía al incendio de Knowles en el condado de Mesa el 27 de junio.

Dedicó su carrera a proteger vidas, comunidades y tierras públicas, sirviendo junto a sus compañeros bomberos forestales con valentía, profesionalismo y un compromiso inquebrantable con los demás.

Nathan, gracias por tu servicio y sacrificio. Que descanses en paz.

National Night Out is all about bringing neighbors together, strengthening relationships with local law enforcement, and building safer, stronger neighborhoods.
