Inception:
In 2006, the idea of providing school supplies to underprivileged, elementary school children became a reality. Cecil Collins, founder and CEO, considered the idea because his mother teaches elementary school children. As a result, Collins created the School Supply Giveaway through the help of his fraternity, collecting $250 worth of school supplies. Over the course of five years, Coll
ins has single-handedly raised over $ 7,000 for underprivileged children while obtaining a Master Degree at Purdue University. With this success, this prompted Collins to create a non-profit organization that specifically catered to underprivileged children and disadvantaged elementary schools to push for the advancement of learning. The Giving BackPack Foundation:
The Giving BackPack Foundation, created November 2011, is adament in placing a permanent stance in the community. We passionately believe that youth education demands a high priority, for youth education sets the tone for how children learn, understand, and develop skills that are required throughout their schooling. Our goal is to supply as many children in the state of Indiana with backpacks filled with the necessary supplies for that school year. Also, many schools require other items, such as white gym shoes, boxes of tissues, freezer bags, and school uniforms. We plan to equip children with these items as well. The Giving BackPack Foundation is a non-profit organization that is currently awaiting confirmation of the 501(c)3 status required for contributions to be tax-deductible. We have set up a fund through the Legacy Foundation, who is providing fiscal sponsorship in order for our organization to collect funds honestly and in the utmost fairness to our donors.
