I started weeding at the 3rd Street park in Avondale (Thompson-Brown Park) I got 4 big Loweโ€™s compost bags and am not nearly done but itโ€™s shaping up nicely. I planted a few more native perennials and would love suggestions for fall flowers

One of my very favorite things that I get to do as Mayor is recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of the young people in our community.

Each year, Avondale Borough honors our graduating seniors with a certificate of recognition to celebrate their hard work, perseverance, and achievement. I am always so proud of our students and grateful for the opportunity to acknowledge this important milestone in their lives.

Graduation represents so much more than receiving a diploma. It reflects years of dedication, growth, challenges overcome, and dreams for the future. Our graduates have worked hard to reach this moment, and they deserve to be celebrated by the community that is cheering them on.

If you live in Avondale Borough and have a student graduating this year from a private school, approved private school, cyber school, homeschool program, or if they have earned their GED, please send an email to [email protected] and I will make sure your graduate receives a certificate as well.

To all of our graduates โ€” congratulations. We are proud of you, we believe in you, and we cannot wait to see where life takes you next.

โ€” Mayor Susan F. Rzucidlo.
*I've already received the names of graduates from Avon Grove High School and Avon Grove Charter School.

This Memorial Day, Avondale Borough pauses to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their courage, sacrifice, and devotion to protecting our freedoms will never be forgotten.

As we gather with family and friends this weekend, may we also take a moment to reflect with gratitude on those who made those moments possible. We extend our deepest respect and appreciation to all who have served and especially to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

From all of us in Avondale Borough, we remember, we honor, and we are forever grateful.

On Saturday, May 16th, the Avondale Borough community gathered together in heartfelt remembrance and gratitude to honor the brave men and women who have served our nation. The Veterans Memorial Dedication was a moving and meaningful occasion made possible through the support and participation of many dedicated individuals and organizations.

We are deeply grateful to VFW Post 5467, American Legion Post 491, the William E. Taylor Division of the Sea Cadets USNSCC, Boy Scout Troop 191, and a dedicated Girl Scout whose presence and service helped make the ceremony so special. Their commitment to honoring our veterans reflected the very spirit of community, patriotism, and respect.

We were honored to welcome State Representative Christina Sappey, who shared an inspiring message about unity, remembrance, and the importance of coming together as a nation in gratitude for the sacrifices made by our veterans. Our sincere thanks also go to Pastor Sondra Taylor for opening and closing the ceremony with heartfelt prayers, and to Sergeant Derrick Watkins for his beautiful rendition of the National Anthem.

The ceremony was led by Mayor Susan Rzucidlo and joined by Borough Council members Janet Watts, and Lucas Ortiz, and Constable John Watts. A particularly touching moment was the moving performance of Taps by a young Sea Cadet, which served as a powerful tribute to those who have served and sacrificed.

With the dedication of the memorial and the naming of the surrounding grounds as Avondale Memorial Park, located at 300 Pomeroy Avenue, Avondale, PA, Avondale Borough proudly extends its deepest gratitude to all veterans โ€” both named and unnamed โ€” whose courage, service, and sacrifice will never be forgotten.
