On Saturday, May 16th, the Avondale Borough community gathered together in heartfelt remembrance and gratitude to honor the brave men and women who have served our nation. The Veterans Memorial Dedication was a moving and meaningful occasion made possible through the support and participation of many dedicated individuals and organizations.
We are deeply grateful to VFW Post 5467, American Legion Post 491, the William E. Taylor Division of the Sea Cadets USNSCC, Boy Scout Troop 191, and a dedicated Girl Scout whose presence and service helped make the ceremony so special. Their commitment to honoring our veterans reflected the very spirit of community, patriotism, and respect.
We were honored to welcome State Representative Christina Sappey, who shared an inspiring message about unity, remembrance, and the importance of coming together as a nation in gratitude for the sacrifices made by our veterans. Our sincere thanks also go to Pastor Sondra Taylor for opening and closing the ceremony with heartfelt prayers, and to Sergeant Derrick Watkins for his beautiful rendition of the National Anthem.
The ceremony was led by Mayor Susan Rzucidlo and joined by Borough Council members Janet Watts, and Lucas Ortiz, and Constable John Watts. A particularly touching moment was the moving performance of Taps by a young Sea Cadet, which served as a powerful tribute to those who have served and sacrificed.
With the dedication of the memorial and the naming of the surrounding grounds as Avondale Memorial Park, located at 300 Pomeroy Avenue, Avondale, PA, Avondale Borough proudly extends its deepest gratitude to all veterans โ both named and unnamed โ whose courage, service, and sacrifice will never be forgotten.
