On March 12, 2026, at 7:22 am, the Herbert Wallace Fire Department received a call about a structure fire at 325 Ambassador Drive. Engine 768, crewed by four personnel, arrived at 7:25 am and assessed the situation. Thankfully, it was discovered that the heater's blower motor had failed, and there was no fire. The Fire Department took necessary measures to contain the issue and secure the premises, allowing the homeowners to return without concern.

With severe weather season upon us and hurricane season rapidly approaching, now is the best time to create and review your emergency evacuation plans and survival kits. Make sure all members in your family are included in these plans and kits including elderly, children, and especially pets.
It is important to have these plans in place all year and to practice before the real time comes.
Also the Jefferson Parish Emergency Management is seeking volunteers for the 2026 hurricane evacuation drill on April 13, 2026. If interested see the post and click on the volunteer registration forms.
Thank you, be prepared, and be safe!

Jefferson Parish Emergency Management team is looking for volunteers who are interested in helping with the 2026 Hurricane evacuation drill on April 13th, 2026. Thank you!

Jefferson Parish Emergency Management is seeking volunteers to assist with hurricane evacuation exercise on April 13, 2026.

For those interested in being a volunteer for this year’s exercise, you must fill out two online forms:

Volunteer Registration Form: https://www.jeffparish.gov/FormCenter/2026-Hurricane-Exercise-19/Volunteer-Registration-Form-69

Release and Waiver of Rights Agreement Form (Volunteers Under 18): https://www.jeffparish.gov/FormCenter/2026-Hurricane-Exercise-19/Release-and-Waiver-of-Rights-Agreement-V-70

Release and Waiver of Rights Agreement Form (Volunteers Over 18): https://www.jeffparish.gov/FormCenter/2026-Hurricane-Exercise-19/Release-and-Waiver-of-Rights-Agreement-V-71

All volunteers are asked to report to their selected location — the North Kenner Library (603 West Esplanade Avenue, Kenner, LA 70065) or the John Alario Sports Complex (11080 Nicolle Boulevard, Westwego, LA 70094) — by 12:30 pm on April 13, where they will receive instructions for the exercise. Volunteers will then board a Jefferson Parish Transit bus where they will be transported to an evacuation site and registered for the evacuation (please note this may occur multiple times). Afterwards, volunteers will be transported back to the staging location.

Volunteers who speak multiple languages, non-English speakers, and individuals requiring wheelchairs, walkers and power chairs are welcome and will be assisted appropriately. Participants should bring all necessary portable transportation or medical devices. Volunteers are also encouraged to bring their children, dogs on leashes, cats in carriers, strollers and luggage. Some volunteers will act as themselves during the registration process, while others will pretend to be someone else based on the scripts distributed at the staging area.
