Did anyone else see that big cloud of black smoke yesterday? Your Elk VFD was called to assist Bellmead fire along with many other departments. We appreciate Waco Fire and Robinson Volunteer Fire Department for setting up excellent rehab facilities. I know our team used them as well as many there. We fought along side Leroy/Axtell Fire and Rescue, Lacy Lakeview VFD, West VFD, Waco Fire, Bellmead Fire, Hallsburg VFD, Robinson VFD, Hewitt VFD, Ross VFD, Elm Mott VFD, and more. The fire was big but our response was bigger. We can't say thank you enough to those that were there alongside us.

To our community thank you! We used the Gatorade you have provided for ourselves and our fellow firefighters. There was a delivery just as we were heading out, thank you for that especially.

There isn't a person who hasn't heard about the huge fires in Hamilton (Rio Escondido) and now in Ross. These are fires that have taken over thousands of acres, with the potential to continue due to weather conditions. The numbers in the picture are from the Texas Forestry Service website and are current as of 6:23am today.
Check on friends and family in the area. The crews working these are working hard. We have local VFD's that have gone on assignment to help in these areas as well. Let's send all the prayers we can to all who are working, affected, or will be affected by these fires.

EXTREME HEAT WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM CDT MONDAY

* WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions with temperatures and heat index values up to 110 expected.

* WHERE...North and Central Texas.

* WHEN...Until 9 PM CDT Monday.

* IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during
extreme heat and high humidity events.

Make sure to Drink your water, Stay indoors, Check that pets have shade, and Check on your elderly neighbors. We are only a call away if you need us.

We want to say a huge THANK YOU to our community. We have had two deliveries of Gatorade and one of water (cases). We can not say thank you enough for these donations. When we are hydrated we can make sure we get the job done.

Yesterday, your Elk VFD was called out for mutual aid for a grass fire. We assisted Lake Mexia VFD, alongside Leroy/Axtell Fire and Rescue, Prairie Hill VFD, and Groesbeck VFD, to knock this fire out. However, since it involved logs that were on fire and kept smoldering, we got many callback calls. Unfortunately, this will continue to happen due to the telephone poles and railroad ties that are smoldering. We appreciate the public's concern, but we have firefighters who are monitoring the situation, and these poles are deep in the burn area, so they shouldn't catch any new area on fire.

Texas A&M Forest Service has raised the Wildland Fire Preparedness Level to Level 3.

Recent and forecast wildfire activity, ongoing resource commitments, and the potential for lightning ignitions across the High Plains today and tomorrow are contributing to elevated fire risk. Strong outflow winds associated with thunderstorms may also result in periods of increased fire behavior and resistance to control on existing wildfires.

We continue to monitor the situation and stand ready to respond to any requests for assistance.

🔥BURN BAN IN EFFECT – McLENNAN COUNTY 🔥

Due to ongoing dry conditions and increased wildfire risk, the McLennan County Commissioners Court has issued an Order Prohibiting Outdoor Burning in all unincorporated areas of McLennan County.

This burn ban is effective immediately and will remain in place for up to 90 days, unless lifted earlier by the County Judge or Commissioners Court.

Failure to comply with the burn ban is a Class C misdemeanor and may result in fines.

Let’s all do our part to prevent wildfires and keep our community safe.
