In March of this year, The Ayden Police Department received a report regarding a juvenile leaving their home under suspicious circumstances. It was later revealed that the juvenile had met an adult male on Snapchat, who had arranged for an Uber to Raleigh International Airport, as well as, a flight to Texas
At the time, officers only knew of the male’s first name and approximate age. With that limited information, officers began working urgently to locate the juvenile. Time was of the essence, as the pair had learned of law enforcement’s efforts to locate the missing juvenile and had intended to board a flight to California.
Officer Williams utilized a database called LiNX – a secure database that allows local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to share information across jurisdictional boundaries to help solve crimes. It was through this database that Officer Williams located a traffic incident from New York State which contained the male’s information. Officer Williams was able to locate an address in Texas as well as pertinent data which helped identify the male.
This information was sent to the Houston Police Department who stopped the juvenile as she entered George Bush Intercontinental Airport.
Without the help of LiNX, Officers would have been that much more delayed in finding the whereabouts of the male and the missing juvenile.
Today, NCIS Division Chief Peterson came to recognize The Ayden Police Department and subsequent success story from using LiNX.
Special thanks to the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, Harris County Sheriff’s Office, The Houston Police Department, and Ayden Police Department’s Detectives Mitchell and Stangland, as well as Sergeant McPhail, Senior Police Officer Rohrs, and Officers Carden, Hill, and Williams for their work in solving this case. There was a tremendous amount of teamwork involved in getting this juvenile back home safely.
