It’s another Red Flag day today.

From the US National Weather Service Albuquerque New Mexico:

RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT THROUGH 7 PM MDT TODAY DUE TO STRONG WINDS AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY FOR THE NORTHWEST PLATEAU... ...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH WEDNESDAY EVENING DUE TO STRONG WINDS AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY FOR THE NORTHWEST PLATEAU, NORTH CENTRAL MOUNTAINS, SANDIA AND MANZANO MOUNTAINS, AND CENTRAL HIGHLANDS... ...FIRE WEATHER WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH WEDNESDAY EVENING DUE TO STRONG WINDS AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY FOR THE WEST CENTRAL MOUNTAINS AND MIDDLE RIO GRANDE VALLEY... .Dry and windy conditions will continue to develop over the Northwest Plateau today with warmer temperatures. This will allow critical conditions to ensue as humidity plummets this afternoon. Winds will strengthen and spread farther south and southeast on Wednesday while temperatures turn even hotter. This will only increase the areal threat for critical fire weather. Right now, the confidence is high enough to warrant a Red Flag Warning across northwestern, north central, and portions of central New Mexico. Winds appear to be a bit more marginal in the Rio Grande valley and west central mountains, so a Fire Weather Watch remains in effect there for Wednesday.

As a reminder, fireworks will not be allowed at McGee Park again this year.

Increased insurance requirements have resulted in our parking lot no longer being available to people lighting fireworks.

A statewide fire ban includes lighting fireworks in the unincorporated part of the County, including McGee Park.

Additionally, state law does not give local jurisdictions the authority to ban the sale of fireworks.

Please use caution with fireworks and celebrate the 250th Independence Day responsibly.

Monsoon Awareness Week: Our final topic this week is outdoor recreation, including camping and hiking. When you're out in the elements, you're especially vulnerable to hazards from monsoon season, including heat, thunderstorms, and flooding. If you are out camping or hiking, it is important to understand your location and vulnerabilities to flooding or flash flooding, such as proximity to dry washes and creek beds. Always have a plan to quickly seek higher ground.

Also, ensure you prepare accordingly and keep all necessary supplies with you, including plenty of water, healthy food and snacks, sunscreen, communication devices, and ways to receive important weather alerts. The best way to stay safe is to be prepared!
