Our Patrol and Detective Divisions are actively investigating a recovered stolen vehicle, followed by a second vehicle theft that occurred this morning in the area between St. Joseph's Church and the area of Mesa Verde/Chaco. This marks the second stolen vehicle reported in this area within the past two weeks.

We are asking our community for help.

While investigators are actively pursuing leads, neighborhood security cameras and doorbell cameras are often what provide the crucial piece of information needed to identify suspects, and track vehicle movements. If you live in this area, please take a few minutes to review your camera footage from around 3:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. this morning. Even if you do not see the stolen vehicle itself, footage of passing vehicles, ANY people walking, or unusual activity may be exactly what our investigators need.

This is our neighborhoods, and you are our neighbors too. Working together gives us the best chance of identifying those responsible and preventing someone else from becoming a victim.

If you find anything that may be relevant, or if you're unsure whether it is important, please contact us. We would much rather review footage that turns out not to be related than miss a critical piece of evidence. Thank you to everyone who continues to support our investigations. COMMUNITY NOTICE: There are absolutely NO OFFICERS injured. A citizen has shared a photo of law enforcement on a scene where a civilian required medical attention following a domestic disturbance.

This was not a felony stop and this is completely false and unverified information regarding an incident. This post did not come from any official source and appears to have been made by an individual without any knowledge of the actual facts.

The individual who posted this content has caused intense unnecessary concern and confusion within the community by sharing information that was not confirmed or verified prior to publication.

We strongly encourage the public to refrain from sharing or amplifying unverified claims. Spreading misinformation can create avoidable panic and undermines accurate public communication.

Incidents of high community interest, are released through this page directly, and are verified through our department directly. Thank you.

We are reposting this as we are still attempting to identify the male in the blue jacket. We would like to speak with him regarding a larceny. If you know who this individual is please contact Officer Jeremy Harris through non emergency dispatch at 505-334-6622. We appreciate your help.

Today, an APD officer witnessed a male subject in the wash near FedEx, firing a rifle within the city limits. The subject was discharging the weapon in the general direction of S. Main Avenue, a civilian working in the wash on a machine, and the officer who was conducting a traffic stop nearby. At this time, the individual's intentions remain under investigation, and it is not certain what or who he was shooting at yet.
Fortunately, no one was injured and no one was struck by gunfire.
The suspect fled the area, prompting a coordinated search by the Aztec Police Department (APD) with assistance from the San Juan County Sheriff's Office (SJCSO) and the Bloomfield Police Department (BPD). We greatly appreciate the assistance of our local law enforcement partners, and the FBI who generously offered assistance as well.
A male was ultimately located outside close to a nearby residence, where he barricaded himself inside of after fleeing from officers. Following law enforcement efforts, the subject was taken into custody without further incident.
As with all criminal investigations, all subjects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
We appreciate the patience, cooperation, and assistance of our community during this incident.
