This week is National EMS Week and we want to take a second to recognize our hard workers.

Lots of times EMS providers are the first on the scene and respond while others are sleeping. They have to go from zero to 100mph in the blink of an eye. EMS providers aren’t given a diagnosis, scans, blood work or lots of extra hands - usually in a truck bouncing down the road. They have to work with their training and instinct as their main guide.

This week we want to tell every EMS provider that we see the weight that is carried around and are thankful for you as clinicians, critical thinkers, and life savers.

To every EMS person out there this week, you are seen and supported. May all your shifts be safe and thanks again for all you do!

🔥 Public Health Smoke Warning – May 13, 14, 15, 2025 🔥
Issued by: Babbitt Fire Department
Date: May 12, 2025
Due to ongoing wildfire activity and dry weather conditions, the Fire Department predicts the possibility 2 days of very heavy wildfire smoke impacts, including falling ash, with elevated levels of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and ozone expected. CONDITIONS MAY REACH EXTREME LEVELS.
⚠️ Who is at Risk?
• Children and teens
• Older adults
• People with asthma, COPD, heart disease, or other respiratory conditions
• Outdoor workers and athletes
🛑 When Air Quality is Poor:
• Limit outdoor activities, especially strenuous exercise.
• Stay indoors with windows and doors closed.
• Use HEPA air purifiers or create a cleaner air room using a portable air cleaner or DIY box fan filter.
• Check the Air Quality Index (AQI) daily at MN AQI or follow updates on the MPCA’s page.
🏫 For Schools and Child Care:
The Minnesota Department of Health recommends using the Outdoor Air Quality Guidance for Schools and Child Care to adjust outdoor activities when AQI levels are elevated [1].
🏢 For Buildings:
The EPA’s new Best Practices Guide (May 2025) outlines how to reduce indoor smoke exposure in schools, commercial buildings, and multi-unit housing. Building managers should:
• Upgrade HVAC filters to MERV 13 or higher
• Seal gaps and improve ventilation
• Designate and maintain cleaner air spaces.

Everybody please stay safe and if you start experiencing respiratory symptoms such as chest pressure, difficulty breathing with no relief, abnormal swelling, or other intense symptoms during these days, seek medical care.
